It's almost Raffle season (new polls post no.40)

And I have some polls for you!

Do people want a raffle this year?

  • Of course!
  • No/don’t care/I’m sick of raffles

0 voters

The Hardship Fund balance seems really healthy, so I don’t know if it really needs fundraising in the way The Raffle was originally set up for, so here are some ideas about what raffle money could go towards, select things you think are a good idea (anon)

  • Hardship Fund anyway
  • Contribute to DiS running costs
  • Big sum to one charity
  • Split money between lots of charities

If you want a raffle, would you prefer it to be…

  • Late November
  • Early December

0 voters

  • Over a couple of weekdays
  • On a Saturday all in one

Polls are really to get a general idea, discussion and ideas encouraged.

Yep, whatevers easiest to run. I’m 0-2 for recieving first choice raffle presents so hopefully this will be third time lucky.

50% DiS
50% Charity would be nice

Either potentially. Past raffles I did on days where R was with his dad and got home about 6pm, now he’s at school that doesn’t happen on a weekday but is on some Saturdays. If it was a weekday I can raffle during school hours and in the evening, so it might take a couple of days.

Unless I draw everything in advance/completely automate the system and can just drip everything out any time, but I think that would be less fun.

This was what I was thinking, but I wanted to get a consensus on it and make sure it was clear from the start.

For people not familiar with the raffle set up/history:

The past two years I have run a raffle to raise money for our community Hardship Fund, and it turned out to be way more successful than I imagined and both times we raised in excess of £1000 and gave a lot to other charities as well.

The way it works is that first I seek prize donations from community members, then I do a thread announcing the prizes, next you get to buy a raffle ticket and you get a nice easy form (masterminded by @ynot) to select which prizes you are interested in winning and how interested in them you are to ensure you don’t end up with something you have no interest in or use for. I draw raffle tickets manually because that os the fun way, and select the highest prize available for each person from the results of the form. Hopefully everyone has fun and gets something cool :+1:

I’m up for doing the forms and spreadsheets again.

The fund is pretty healthy at the moment, so perhaps third Hardship fund, third DiS server costs and third charity donations that go to a public vote.

This would be excellent, was great working with you last year :+1:

Was everyone happy with the process of how we did things last year? Is there anything we could improve?
