"It's got a Pentium II processor"

Remember when everyone was going on about “Pentium II processors”?

All about the RISC…

It always bugs me that in every advert for computers, whenever anyone mentions Intel® Processors the advert has to stop for a second for that bloody Intel® jingle to play before carrying on as if nothing happened.

Is a Core i5 better than a Pentium II?

Yes. 5 is 3 more than 2.

But is Core more than Pentium?

I can’t think of a glib answer, so

Pentium < Pentium II < Pentium 3 < Pentium 4 Atom < Celeron < Pentium < Core i3 < Core i5 < Core i7 < Core i9

Spot the oddity in the middle of that lot.

Absolutely none of that makes sense.

Why go from Pentium II to Pentium 3? Why not Pentium III? And why make Pentium 4 Atom instead of just plain old Pentium 4?

What was so bad about Celeron that they had to go back to square 1 with Pentium? Was Pentium 4 Atom not retrograde enough?

What happened to Core i1, 2, 4, 6 and 8?

Not your fault, obvs czuk, just reinforces my view that tech firms should be shut down at the moment of formation.

Whoops. There was a missing < sign between Pentium 4 and Atom. They’re different CPU lines.

Also there was a Core, a CoreDuo and a Core2Duo line, but I skipped them for brevity.
