I am shocked that our resident hater doesn’t like his work. SHOCKED

Just most of the big ones for me. Been meaning to watch Raging Bull and King of Comedy for ages, though. One day

I disagree!

He’s in a (slightly) elevated schlocky melodrama weird b-movie and is delivering a performance to fit that. I think he matches up to the Robert Mitchum performance in the original film, which is also definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. I also rate his Magwitch in the Cuaron Great Expectations, which is kind of in the same vein. It’s cool he wasn’t just putting in ‘safer’ prestige peformances like Heat and Casino in the 90s.

I really like that he is doing something weird and kind of tasteless basically.

I personally thought Casino was a more consistent movie than Goodfellas and one I enjoyed more but I also seem to recall it felt overlong. Goodfellas is one of those films with some great scenes in but overall I found it dull.

A key difference may be that everyone wanged on about Goodfellas being THE BEST EVER and it’s just not. Whereas I saw Casino shortly after it came out and all reviews I heard/read were pretty “it’s not his best / bit of a retread of Goodfellas / 7 out of 10 at best,” so I probably had much lower expectations.

However these days I feel like people rate Casino highly so both probably get the similar adulation

I really like that film but it is silly. If you look on Google Maps, the guy could have just walked home in about an hour and a half.

No people definitely say Goodfellas is better, because it is
