Oh hello looking into it a bit deeper and of course it’s a pre-Christian traditional folk tale passed from the Romans and the dragon seems to represent wider tree of life type serpent iconography - the lot the Romans came and wumped.

So yeah it’s really about the formation of English civilisation as a part of the pan-European cultural development.
