We went to a wedding down in the winelands near Cape Town on Saturday and tacked on a week’s holiday to the front. Cape Town is a great city, tons to do, friendly people, great food etc. but I was acutely aware wherever we went that almost every customer was white and every person serving was not. That and the gaping inequality between the fancy houses in the nice suburbs and the houses made of scrap metal in the townships made it pretty uncomfortable.

Gah I’ve felt something similar when I was on my honeymoon, 100s of Cubans coming in via bus from the nearby town. Tipped as much as I possibly could but it didn’t really cover the guilt.

Morning all. Was out in the market here putting up posters for upcoming gigs before work. Was nice to be up and about in the city so early. Might make that part of my morning routine.

Work is going to be pretty boring all day I’d say. Will be putting up more posters after work and maybe going for a drink later.

Yeah we didn’t know what else we could do really apart from tipping well, being respectful to people and learning more about the country’s history. I’ve seen that sort of inequality in Paraguay but it never really stops being shocking.

The wedding was the classiest thing I’ve ever been invited to and it was at a wine estate so yeah, tons of ruddy good :wine_glass:
