Been like 3 years since I actually got my act together to work on anything. Been re-listening to a bunch of old stuff and much of it is… flimsy. Good ideas but lack of production value. These are the ones I’m pretty happy with still on reflection.

Homage to Autechre-style glitchy ambient techno

Homage to early 'IDM’

Biosphere/Alva Noto inspired ambient techno

From when I was obsessed with Tim Hecker

turning off the latest Trilogy Tapes NTS to listen to these …Homage could easily have been in the mix

Cheers dude  Got a month living alone in San Francisco in Jan/Feb (working at our office over there for a bit) so might try and rework a bunch of old things while I’m there.

yeah, do it

or just try some new things - let San Fran give you a vibe and explore that maybe ?

Will see how inspired I feel! TBH, 90% of my output was during the year the TV and I were living in different cities, so maybe another month of that will rekindle the creative spark?

This is nice stuff. Love that floaty static feeling.

I’d get rid of the distortion on Pulsar if I was you - digital distortion is a bit painful like and it kind of ruins a really nice track

Just listened to the opener. It’s amazing! Will pick up a digital copy :+1:

Cheers dude - think I was going through a bit of a phase of just putting a bit of distortion on everything. Was pretty obsessed with Alva Noto’s Xerrox 2 and Tim Hecker at that point in time.

yeah but they use analogue distortion to get rich upper harmonics, digital distortion is just harsh frequencies and slices off the top of waveshapes. If you don’t have don’t have something to make analogue distortion or saturation with but still want that texture/scuzz then I’d recommend using some white/pink noise and gateing/ducking it alongside the bits you want to ā€˜distort’ to get the same effect of the actual synthline decaying/disintegrating into distortion

thanks pal. listening to yours but i think these are the same ones i heard last time round. a friend of mine is really into ā€˜psytrance’ and has just started an events company where lots of people in multicoloured clothing go to the woods and rave in the daytime with no booze or drugs. weird as hell but whatever floats your boat.

Thanks for the tips

no problem

alternatively, I’d highly recommend one of these https://www.moogmusic.com/products/minifoogers/mf-drive

it’s not a distortion unit but just a drive unit with a filter but it sounds SO sweet if you overdrive it a bit and all the way along the gain level it gives a really nice saturation

 Yeah, I’ve done literally nothing of substance since the last big jag thread on the old boards :frowning: Getting back into video games is probably one of reasons…
Love psytrance (per my desperately unsuccessful thread over on the music boards) but none of my friends like it really.

Up to Vessel now - much like with BITT’s work, this is just absolutely hitting my sweet spot. You doing any live stuff?

Interesting. My existing set-up is pretty amateur - FL Studio (yeah, I know… but Proem uses it and he’s amazing), a bunch of plug-ins, and a midi keyboard.

well this could be just for you!! https://www.facebook.com/utopianconnection/

nice  thinking about doing live in the new year but only really have me and the drummer, need to recruit some musicians.

I’ll take a look!
Keep us all posted - I would be all over a live show.
Dare I say that Nowhere made me think of one of those little NiN interludes from TDS or The Fragile? I know you’re such a big fan…

yeah it’s defo reznor-esque. i’m not a fan anymore but spent a good ten years being a NIN superfan so it does still creep in to stuff sometimes!

well, if you have the means (interface) to get audio channels out of FL and record them back in again then treating each of the multitrack with a drive unit like this would really take it up a level (if you can be arsed)
