oh sure, but i think it is helpful to know what we are doing. i know i tend to go on a bit about these things, but those figures are still concrete and verifiable in a way that, say, the austerity deaths are not (because uk citizens are more real to us, i guess, so of course there is more pressure to manipulate those stats and cast doubts on their authenticity we’d never do that to uk citizens). but imo if we’re trying to build a moral case against the tory regime then starting with yemen is a way to maximise the visceral impact. it sums up so much of what is wrong with our sick society. the deaths, the complete irrelevance to ordinary peoples’ lives that is “countering iranian influence”, and of course pursuing a deliberate policy of cooperation with al qaeda to fight the houthis. and i have no idea why the opposition don’t mention more often that phil may is a shareholder in capital group (they part own BAE). so each time one of our bombs hits a yemeni schoolbus or blows up a wedding, our prime minister and her husband profit directly from that. such fertile ground for really stoking the fires of unrest imo. i don’t want to believe people in this country are so heartless that they wouldn’t care about this stuff if they knew.
