Pimple Slam would be a good gross-out pop-punk name

good job we’ve decided that the film that exists is better than the one that doesn’t. thanks all!

Barton Fink
first saw this nearly 20 years ago and didn’t like it all that much but enjoyed it a lot more on second viewing. quite a neat and charming little film isn’t it.

Films what I’ve seen recently

boarding gate - utter dross. Binned it off halfway through.

capturing the friedmans - really excellent documentary making. Kind of exposed how much more can be done with a feature length true crime documentary than the Netflix pipeline ever really does.

Maggie - really odd little film. Completely all over the place but with enough ideas to make it enjoyable despite not hanging together. Has ‘debut of a director who’ll go onto make something really very good’ written all over it

Been to see Weathering With You, was very nice and lovely but just hit the exact same plot beats and thematic moments as Your Name, maps almost perfectly onto it. For that reason I’ll probably never end up watching it again, whilst I rinse repeat viewings of Your Name all the time.

Anime always makes me want to eat eggs, which as a vegan I do not; this motherfucker made me crave a goddamn McDonalds burger. How much bunce did they give him for that?

Also, Your Name’s ending hits the bullseye and I felt fully invested in it (watching it in the cinema I was about ready to yell ‘for fuck’s sake, will one of you say something!’ at the final scene) whereas this one had a weird as hell ending which doesn’t work at all

The Ninth Gate

  • Polanski AND johnny depp? R u trippin bro?
  • A decent film despite everything

@xylo will attest

Watched half of Under Silver Lake last night and it’s been enjoyably pointless so far, which I think it’s totally aware of - just meanders self-indulgently and doesn’t give a shit. I like its moxy! Soundtrack is lovely. Male gaze is a bit uncomfortable because it doesn’t make the point obvious enough, except for one scene, so until then I was somewhat dubious, even though you kinda assume the director’s smarter than that.
