Eh, tbh I haven’t watched the video but without going to far into the polsci stuff, libsoc covers numerous schools of thought inc, council communism, municipalism, communalism all of which have numerous thinkers attached to them but confusingly very few of them would probably refer to themselves as a specifically libertarian socialist.

I do kind of agree that it could just be described as socialism particularly in line with Critique of the Gotha Program or something like that but, on the same note given how controversial that was I can also see why people might want to insist on it as a separate school of thought.

*skipped through it, yeah I think it’s mostly this that he’s referring to.

Good that brexit is done and no one is remotely interested in it anymore

tenner says that before the end of the leadership race they end up posting a big thread about the need to rethink age of consent laws

Helpful to be educated on the original meaning and their intent but I really feel like the Labour Party has bigger battles to fight than recapturing the word “libertarianism”

Seriously guys it’s got a Wikipedia page and everything

Basically just think of it as a socialism whose central concern is liberty

I think the left needs more subgroups as there isn’t enough infighting already

She says things much more clearly than I do, which is major part of what I want from a party leader.

Sounds like Marx in its purest form to me (whose primary concern philosophically, in my understanding, was the emancipation of the individual). Although this was seen as the achievement at the ‘end state’ of Communism, which he famously left undefined. Although, again with reference to my very limited understanding of Marx, I doubt statist autocracy was what he had in mind in his conception of Communism.

Focus groups are maddening for how accurately they portray people’s ability to just go along with whatever the last person said unthinkingly…

Think the next page ends with them agreeing that, yes, their faces are all made of electricity and ham

Anyone got any idea what a bob is? I mean I know it’s old money slang, but I wouldn’t have a clue how much. I suppose people under 55 are not his target audience here though god I hate him

Anyone revising their opinion on who to back based on Thornberry making the ballot?

It’s 5p, I think.

This is based on once, when I was about 12, getting a pair of Royle Family themed boxers for Christmas (?), which featured Jim Royle on them and the quote “They cost me a quid these undies, and I’ve got ten bobs worth up my arse”. I thought a bob was a quid which made no sense, so my dad explained it.

Great gift.

My colleague thinks a bob is a quid, based on her grandad calling a fiver “five bob”.
