more incredibly weird stuff about Durham Miners Gala. People really have a hard time not finding increasingly weird ways to attack left wing events. seems like people have latched onto being weird about it so there’ll probs be loads more of this until the event is destroyed. Remember when it was a gathering of racists? WEIRD

Think it says a lot about the Tory mindset that they achieve this incredible, floor-sweeping electoral victory that gives them everything they ever wanted, pure unregulated power across the whole country to enact wild, ambitious evil on a scale never before seen, and within a month they’re whining about the BBC and the fucking Durham Miner’s Gala not being for them.

Think there’s a tangential lesson in there about conceding to the right, which is do it as little as you can, because whatever you give them will not make them happy. Nothing will actually make them happy.

Michael Moore has a lot of flaws but I remember in his book Stupid White Men from the early 2000s he quotes a friend who says the Republicans should be happy they control everything but instead they’re still pissing and moaning. These people always need something to complain about

Isn’t this what underlies all of this fucking stupid Brexiteer shit, in that they can never be satisfied and the battle is never won for them, because there’s always people to shit on, always other minorities, always people who don’t share their precious values, always people who think that it might be worth acknowledging other people than just cosseted white folks, and so they can piss and moan forever in a sort of carnival shooting gallery of targets. Intolerance is never, ever satisfied. Bastards.

And somehow instead of fury at the Tories it will still be Labour’s fault, for forcing the North to shoot itself by making them believe right wing populist ideology for a bit

I’m guessing they’ve probably still got Labour councils, so of course it will be Labour’s fault.

‘centrist’

Why are you surprised though? We live in a ‘small c’ conservative country so the electorally successful right wing party always, always frames their policies as common sense, moderate and consensus and their outriders back them up. The left can do the same thing any time they want to.

Holy shit, we were wondering what the solution was and you’ve gone and cracked it

It’s not the solution it’s entry level political messaging, but you still seem surprised by it so I thought’ I’d clarify.

For the record, I think there are plenty of the Corbyn left who wouldn’t reframe their message as common sense even if it guaranteed the next election. Hence all the distrust of everyone up to and including RLB, which led to people trying to run Ian fucking Lavery.

perfect summary of politics in 2020

a study funded by the home office and the EU says that the approach taken by the home office is shit, but clearly they won’t change approach, and this won’t get reported very widely

Wonder if dapper laughs is planning on a mainstream comeback? I think he’s probably alright for cash with instagram videos etc but that fox weirdo would presumably be ok for cash too :man_shrugging:
