Cheers. Watched this mesmerising short ‘thing’ just now:

Watched The Swerve this morning…holy heck what a film that is

I’m going to watch Dune - I’ve never seen it

The Fugitive is so great.

Don’t do it. I made this exact mistake a few weeks ago

It’s pretty wild so far

Just wait

American Animals (All4) was an excellent way to tell a maybe true story. It captures the naivety, over confidence and self-mythologising of the protagonists and contrasts it with their later contrition so well.

The use of lines and scenes from other films never felt like lazy referencing, but a crucial insight into how the characters saw themselves and their plans, and all added to the air of implausibility. Definitely worth a watch.

Some range yesterday;

Fanboys & Sorry We Missed You

SWMY is really great though, I went in wanting bleak and bleak is what I got.

Not exactly a scorching take I imagine, but Toni Erdmann would have been good if it was about an hour shorter

It would not be in my version of such a list, I’ll tell you that for free

They usually add a few newer films with every yearly addition of the book …and then slowly remove the majority of them as the years go on, but this is still in the 2020 version.

will post this in the feb one too

I had to finish it today because i was falling asleep last night

Wow

That film is really quite something. I knew it was supposed to be bad but I think I’m a bit obsessed with it now

Wiki says the bizarre whispered first person present tense voice overs were added after Lynch had lost final cut, that makes sense. But even without those it is so … odd

All the lads riding a big worm there

I seem to be a bit trigger happy on any film subscription services lately and probably will sign up for that.

(Hopefully) many people here may have seen or heard of this documentary but it’s a very good one. Bloody long but gave me a huge list of films to add to my “to watch” list.

I’m a fan of how he continues to insist to be called Paul

Seen it. It’s both really good and slightly misleading. It’s very much a ‘How to make movies’ 40 chapter film course by Mark Cousins. The only wrinkle is that every example he uses is a film from a female director. Even though the voiceovers are from people like Tilda Swinton and Meryl Streep, it is still very much Cousins’ idiosyncratic voice. However, you do see a lot of obscure films that you never knew existed.
