if you leave without returning this it’s a $50 fine … somehow

I think about that sandwich basically every week, it was one of the most purely-perfect foodstuffs I’ve ever eaten. Also the fact that they threaten you if you dare to ask for ketchup or mayo - it’s mustard or nothing as far as I remember

That’s the one I haven’t seen of the Nora Ephron/Meg Ryan trilogy.

I like Nora Ephron. Kind of liked her more when I realised she was once married to Carl Bernstein.

No exit without the raffle ticket. You’re right! Bought back memories of my visit there.

It’s a bit of a tourist trap but a good place to visit. I like that area of NYC. There’s a couple of good music venues there, The Mercury Lounge and a couple of others too.

Thats based on a Jimmy Stewart film called The Shop Around The Corner which is ace

Which means Bernstein has been played by both Hoffman and Jack Nicholson (in Heartburn which is apparently pretty much autobiographical)

Think its on something odd like Dailymotion

Just watched the first half on my lunch break here, it’s exactly what I was hoping for. The comments from the live stream add to it as well. Will hopefully get it finished tonight.

elliptical and poetic, a little reminiscent of Kes

Don’t get me wrong, I’d watch this but I cannot stand in films where they go “look at this” and they point at something and something flies across the room or moves

Is Mubi any good? They’re currently doing 3 months for £1 and I wanna watch a portrait of a lady on fire anyway so might as well…

There’s more than enough on their Library to have a very good time for 3 months, especially for £1 imo.

I signed up that offer a few days ago. I think it runs out in a couple of days perhaps and so get in quick.

I saw Portrait Of A Lady on the back of that subscription. Brilliant film.

There’s plenty of good stuff on there, but the selection is full of stuff like La Dolce Cucchiaio (1947) - an Italian black and white neo-realism, gothic, psychological, new wave thriller filmed entirely through the eyes of two dragonflies (147 minutes)

Think you have to be really quite into film to get vfm at full price, but at that price you might as well for a trial. Think I got a similar deal at the start of lockdown and gave it up shortly after cos I wasn’t watching anywhere near enough to justify full price.

I think Mubi does quite a good job of covering stuff for anyone

It recently stuck up The Straight Story, Birdman and Gone Girl as well for example, it does do mainstream stuff

Just the documentaries in the library would be worth it many times over for the £1 offer price tbh

Sounds a bit more accessible than when I had it in fairness. Do think a fairly high proportion of their stuff requires you to be in the right mood for it though, including the docs.

I still need to explore the library, I’m still mainly using the film a day feature
