Didn’t know about this and pretty gobsmacked at the venue sizes…… is he that much of a big deal here? Loved his stuff with the truckers but admittedly checked out on the solo stuff.
Haven’t seen him before so I’m tempted. My issue is that Southeastern is basically perfect and all his other records hover around a 7/10 for me so I’d really want the gig to focus on that era which he is (understandably) not going to do.
The setlist there is from 2022 - would expect this to be predominantly Weathervanes (which is good for me because it’s probably my second favourite swim after Southeastern) with a few others.
Have you listened to Weathervanes? It’s not the most similar musically to Southeastern, but it feels the most spiritually similar to me somehow.
Haven’t really followed him since, but not for any particular reason, so this thread has prompted me to pick up listening again. Sounds like the new album is worth a spin, so I’ll give that one a go.
That Sad But True cover is also surprisingly good!
Edit: support at the gig was John Moreland, who I’d never heard of, but totally blew me away. Went to see him headline the Union Chapel a little later as a result.
Ah, just seen your post on the gig thread. Sounds like a bit of a weird one. I’m a bit nervous about Stockton given it’s such a strange place to hold one - kind of suspect it to be half full at best, but that might be better than drunk people singing.
I was also at the Edinburgh gig and absolutely loved it. Was seated upstairs in the grand circle where I thought the sound was really good, and I probably have more tolerance for the extended solos than most. Cried (again) at If We Were Vampires because that seems to be a thing I do now.
Also, silly question, but as someone who hasn’t been to a show in over a decade, what time are you supposed to turn up to these things. Doors are 6:30 and it seems from the set list site that it’s normally about two hours after doors they start? Was it one support act?
In Edinburgh it was doors at 7, S.G Goodman at 7:45 and Jason Isbell at 8:45. Finished up around 10:45. I really liked S.G. Goodman, would definitely get there in time for her set.
