Fingers crossed that happens. I’ll lose my shit!
GET OUT
The lyrics aren’t complex by any means, but I find them super evocative. There’s this autumnal, romantic-yet-cynical melancholy to them that’s both profoundly adolescent but also surprisingly durable listening to them as an (alleged) grown-up.
Highly recommend this oral history of 24 Hour Revenge Therapy btw - The Definitive Oral History of Jawbreaker’s 24 Hour Revenge Therapy | Pitchfork
Oh, and top 6 Jawbreaker songs (I couldn’t do 5, soz):

Ok I’ll be serious ![]()
You’re not wrong, but the way Blake conveys them lifts it beyond simple high school idealism
Needs more “Want” but pretty much
How many bands actually have any good lyrics though? Like taking away music, delivery etc I doubt there’s more than a handful of “canon” bands with anything worthwhile to say really. Great music with bad lyrics will always get you further than bad music with great lyrics, so it only makes sense.
Basically I agree with you though, but also with S799 - they’re fine lyrics sang with more heart and conviction than most people can ever muster, and that’s what makes them memorable. Plus, they sound good shouted at the top of your voice when thrashing around your room, and what else do you want from lyrics beyond that?
Shield Your Eyes guys, if I only had one JB song to listen to forever then that might be the one.
EDIT: Sean we seriously need more time to edit posts. I can’t think and type at the same time!
Pretty interesting podcast interview with Blake
