Presume we’re due a new album sometime soon, there’ve been some new tracks popping up on Spotify. I think his last couple of “proper” records have been amongst his best work.

I sort of lost interest after Em Are I, what’s the best of his most recent stuff?

A Turn In The Dream Songs
& The JRams
Manhattan
Bad Wiring

are the ‘proper’ LPs and all real good imo. (Dream Song and Bad Wiring the best 2 for me)
Theres been a bunch of stuff inbetween but its either been covers records of w Peter Stampfel.

Apparently Irish dates in 2023 fyi.

A guy I know put him on in the black box or maybe Auntie Annie’s years ago and had a big fight with him, not sure he’s been back to Belfast since.

don’t know loads of his full albums but Bad Wiring is v good yeah

saw him do an afternoon solo show in the Black Box a couple of years ago. think he did a full band show in McHughs a year or two before that which i missed.

That was with the JRams and was great.
Think it was sparsely attended as people were away to Bangor to see Bonny Prince Billy.

Aye the Black Box afternoon show was probably the last time I saw him.

I like him. Would go see if I was somewhere he was playing.

His records are all really consistent but having said that I haven’t heard any of the self released stuff he’s been putting out for the past few years. I wasn’t sure if these were somehow different to his proper albums or if he’d just decided not to bother with labels.

oh i went to that Bonnie Prince Billy gig

thought there was a more recent McHughs show with Los Bolts

Starting to doubt myself there.
Going by his gig archive the Black Box was the last Belfast one.
The Los Bolts did galway, Limerick, Dub, Cork but no northern shows.

I knew it

Only a tenner as well. Nearly went but didn’t for some reason. Think I had too many gigs on.

I think that was the one same night as BPB?
I may have confused my JRams with my Los Bolts.
The band was 2 ladies.
The last Black Box show was 2018

Bonnie was 2014. Google suggests there was a JRams show in McHughs that night too

My heads away
I think I was at both in McHughs

Mystery solved:

I was at Richmond Fontaine in Voodoo that night. Last tour/Belfast gig.

I’ve a real soft spot for Manhattan, I love the couple of long dreamy songs on there. Almost like he’s trying to do Galaxie 500 or something.

The Tuli Kupferberg covers album was a good odd laugh but not really one for repeated listens imo.

Im actually going to the Peebles gig (but for Kathryn Joseph)

Same here (but for everyone on the bill).

Have you been to the venue before? Was there last month for Gruff Rhys, it’s a nice wee set-up.

Also helps that Peebles is that nice halfway point between Edinburgh and the Borders, can spend the day traipsing about Kelso/Melrose etc, up the road, get some fish and chips from Jim Jacks then round the corner for a gig, home by 11.

I am 43 years old.

Somehow never seen him live before, grabbed a Bristol ticket. Wish I could make it to one of those Scottish shows tho
