I think it’s calmed down a lot more as the album’s gone on. The first few tracks were a bit more ‘manic’ in terms of styles, changing around and slightly odd bombast, so that’s what it was making me think of.

This the Peter Gabriel I was thinking of btw:

This was way more proggy than I expected. Kind of a hodge podge of 60s and 70s pop rock styles (sometimes several at once) wrapped up in an early 90s power pop package. Got a relatively low tolerance for that style of US alt rock vocals nowadays, so had to be open minded there, and yeah, was also trying to get that cover art out of my mind while listening to it, but otherwise I was enjoying it and will give it a few more spins. Preferred the first half and “New Mistake” on the first listen

Jason Falkner now plays with Beck doesn’t he ? That’s all I’ve got. Oh and he produced two of my favourite albums ever. Lapalco and One Mississippi by Brendan Benson. Think he co-wrote some tracks as well. Don’t know much about Jellyfish but am gonna listen to this album this morning…

I love Jellyfish

Played both albums to death at the time (on cassette whilst playing Pilotwings on the SNES 90s fans)

Recently got both albums on CD and loving them all over again - especially Spilt Milk. So so strong. I am a total sucker for Power Pop though

Didn’t expect to see a thread about these fellas.

I think I saw them a handful of times in the early 90s and always had a great time. They were a lot of fun.

Thanks for reminding me about this band. It’s been a while. Had a little listen to Spilt Milk last night;: it holds up really well.

showing my lack of knowledge on Jellyfish here. Faulkner left after the first album

yah he left but sturmer kinda followed a similar career path with production and all. that first faulkner solo album is pretty good if i recall?

is @Bobsin a fan of this album?

Honestly I haven’t heard it, but it definitely sounds like my cup of soy latte. I’ll give it a listen and report back.

never heard these, skimming through now, sounds good!

They split so quickly. No band ever did better harmonies.

Yeah, this is excellent! Not sure how I was unaware of this record until now - I think the cover art has something to do with it. I can remember coming across Jellyfish cds in shops and dismissing them as probably sounding like Ugly Kid Joe or something equally horrible. Nearest thing I can compare it to is pre-prog Todd Rundgren. Thanks for introducing me to this.

I’m a big Brendan Benson fan. First two albums are amazing.

The cover is a travesty for real. Glad you dug the alb. You have to pick a track now though.
