So this new album’s fantastic right? Bloody fantastic.

Not so much a return to form as such. I Know What Love Isn’t was a good album. More a return to what he does best.

I’ve just heard a couple of JL tracks on various compilations that Dissers have made for me and my interest in piqued… where to start for a noob?

Best place is this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Oh-Youre-So-Silent-Jens/dp/B000BKUX06 although it’s not on Spotify if you were intending to stream. It’s a compilation of his early EP’s and some b-sides and assorted tracks. Remains his best work.

Failing that get stuck in with Night Falls Over Kortedala and then the Argument With Myself EP and then When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog. The latter’s his debut and, as such, is a bit patchy but contains many awesome songs. The new one (Life Will See You Now) is also brilliant.

Pretty sure I’ve just accidentally recommended listening to pretty much all of it but do try and get hold of You’re So Silent first.

On initial listens, I haven’t really been blown away by it nor have I felt there to be a standout track. I just might not have been in the right mood to listen to it over the weekend.

What’s everyone else’ favourite song on the new album?

Evening Prayer

I agree with Geoff, ‘you’re so silent Jens’ is absolutely solid gold. To be honest I think it is head and shoulders over his other stuff (not that the other stuff isn’t good, it’s just all relative). if you want to be hooked on Jens from the start get ‘you’re so silent’. And then see him live.

Enjoying this record - a bit more variety than the previous record, with some terrific samples.

Evening Prayer is great, as is Postcard #17, which was my favourite of the postcard songs. Can’t beat a quietly devastating F bomb.

It’s a definite grower

I really love How We Met, The Long Version

Yeah I definitely need to give it more time. I do quite like the cheery atmosphere that the samples create and I think that distracted me from the lyrics which (for me at least) are key to Jens’ work…

This album is fantastic! Hotwire The Ferriswheel & Postcard 17 <3

I cannot wait to see him live again.

I’ve listened to this new one one and a half times now and I’m currently of the opinion that it’s really fantastic. Sounds like Hot Chip a lot more than I was expecting. It’s just super fun.

Okay I just listened to the album again twice through and have fallen in love with ‘How we met, the long version’ & ‘Postcard #17:+1:

It’s all I want from a Jens album. Absolutely love it. Really looking forward to the Manchester gig, considering a Brooklyn one too.

this is really good

Tempted to go to Dublin gig, how is he live?

First time I saw him at a small solo gig is still my favourite show ever.

Saw him 7 or 8 times since. He tends to have different set ups each tour from him and a backing tape to full band/ backing singers. Always really engaging.

I’d massively recommend it.

Seen him twice, once with full band and once solo. Both time it was utterly spellbinding

When he played solo he said arguably my favorite bit of banter ever ‘On the guitar and vocals, Jens, and on percussion strings and bass - Roland’

definitely go see him! As mentioned above, he’s great live and very engaging/entertaining. Especially by the second half of the gig when it becomes a bit of more of a party-like atmosphere. Will be see seeing him again next month - my tenth Jens gig, and still not bored.
