Can’t really find much energy to get worked up by this. Also DiS did the crowdfunding thing and we all thought that was fine so… shrug

Yes but did you read the bit where she called me a dickhead?

I guess? I dunno, everyone has different lines to cross, I’ve never been able to keep up! Like I remember when people started to say fam again, I was like ??? I used to say this all the time at school, but that’s surely not ok now? And everyone was just like IT’S FINE SHUT UP.

Saying that, the clap thing is a more general trend, rather than something like on fleek, which was invented by one black woman in America who got very little recognition for essentially keeping social media interns a new way to try and look like they were down with ~the kids~

Who are the main people in this ‘left twitter’ gang? Obvs Wilkinson and the other 2 that penoid mentioned but any other big hitters?

Yeah, I should bung her coffee just for that, tbf.

Can I put a comment in when I donate? “You called Epimer from DrownedinSound.com a dickhead so you deserve a coffee, but fucking get reading up on intersectionality, yeah?”

I still don’t see the difference

I assume H Lew is in there? Maybe CM? Dunno if Laurie Penny is in that group or not.

Just as annoying as rando journalists having blue ticks.

Fuck you all, I’m going to hang out at CokeMachineGlow.

Owen Jones thinks he’s king of ‘UK Left twitter’ doesn’t he?

Is he?

Sounds like Penny should be but I’d make an exception for Lewis myself. Think she’s embarrassed herself over intersectionality etc. herself (as penoid mentioned the others have) but she’s got much more to her if you ask me. I think she’s great.

I did defend her for a while but she just seemed to descend into actually trolling people who felt like intersectionality was important and I couldn’t really forgive that. I used to enjoy following her on Twitter as she did seem to be a decent writer.

Not for me.

I’m generally pro-Jones when all’s said and done but he is irritating. He’s ditched Corbyn now I note.

Remember that woman on Twitter who made a sourdough loaf out of yeast from her vagina? Who has also said some really nasty homophobic things.

Yeah I missed all that when it kicked off, but she is very good on a wide range of stuff so I can forgive her having a tin ear on the odd thing.

Well: I haven’t studied this, I have only picked this sort of thing up from Twitter and reading around on various site, but as I understand it:

It’s more about what you state not happening. I mean really, with feminism, it’s just about recognising that feminism has been really driven by white (and middle-class) women in our society and there’s not been any real move made to allow for non-white voices. At its most basic point, though, I think it’s really saying that if you’re trying to be a progressive and yet what you’ve achieved has mainly only benefited white people then you’re not as progressive as you think you are. It doesn’t have to apply to feminism, any activism that is primarily coming from white middle-classes needs to look at itself to make sure it is doing as much as possible to be more inclusive.

Mostly this^
but I’ve always interpreted more in terms of;

some people think things are how they are because class
some people think things are how they are because gender
some people think things are how they are because race
some people think things are how they are because …etc

but all these concepts intersect and so the fundamental tenet is that we do not have equality if any one group or individual is seen as inferior/unequal

or in more philisophical terms the importance of activism is not to improve your own (or your own group’s) position but in fact to lift up from the bottom

There’s a really good Angela Davis lecture in which she hammers home just how important it is that Trans Women & in particularly Black Trans women are recognised fully because of the reason that they live at the very sharpest edge of the violence of hate & intolerance & to leave them behind is to act selfishly which ultimately leaves us all behind as a society

Honestly regardless of her content cant see anything wrong with it. Ad revenues are in steep decline and journalism is really in the dire straights. Like it or not a lot of ‘content providers’ are going to start asking for voluntary donations. If you like the service she does on twitter (yes 15k twitter and loads of daily tweets can be considered a service of sorts), or want to support a free lance journalist there is nothing wrong with asking for donations from people with a more stable income.

I have no real idea who she is or what she does but asking for money really isnt an issue its not like anyone is paying for papers anymore. Personally I would encourage people to donate to platforms rather then individual writers but its there choice.

How do you all know who these people are?

They use actual avatars with their faces on.
