yeah i think only in the sense that when i first saw it i thought it was shit and overrated until i spent a little bit of time with it. i caught a bit of it on RTÉ or something one night about 10 years ago and thought it was shit, and was quite disappointed when I discovered it was Seinfeld I’d been watching and didn’t go near it for a few years until i finally decided to see what the fuss was about, at which point i fell in love with it pretty quickly.
yeah it’s quite weird how it never took off here at the time, it feels like it almost should have been bigger with UK than US audiences. one theory i have is that in the US people always call it groundbreaking for having zero drama, poignancy or sympathy and all the characters being dicks, whereas i think UK sitcoms had already been specialising in that formula through the 80s.
still feels like it could have done better with a decent timeslot though. they showed Arrested Development in a graveyard slot on BBC as well (i actually remember HIMYM starting out in that slot too until E4 bought it and moved it to primetime. bastards.)
even the title of the show puts me off it.
