New Mutants are a superhero team from the landmark comic series of the same name which spun off the X-Men in the 1980s, following students of the Xavier Institute who were not members of the X-Men. It was notable for being much weirder than preceding X-Men comics, and classic runs written by Chris Claremont and Louise Simonson are essential reading.

The New Mutants is a film adaptation based on the above which was produced by Fox before they were bought by Disney. The film has been finished for about 2 years but release dates kept being postponed for a few reasons, one of which being nobody wants it.

Watched Nymphomaniac Part 1 and thought it was a lot better than expected. Looking forward to Part 2

Also watched Ghosts of War cause Kermode banged on about how mental the twist was. He couldve mentioned its a proper bargain bin film while he was at it. Shouldve known by Billy Zane being in it

I see, I thought it was gonna be a Turtles film tbh

Well how was the twist?

They arent actually in a mansion in WW2 but its a simulation to help with PTSD after they got blown up in Afghanistan. Its pretty much the same sort of thing as Ghost Stories where the person is actually in hospital and the events are from their experiences. Not that outlandish

My local cinema is showing films that they intended to show before lockdown, so I’ve got tickets for both Portrait of a Lady on Fire and A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood coming up over the next couple of weeks.

Haven’t seen it before but I’ve been intrigued by it for a while

Nah, I thought it was but it’s from the 70s. Horror comedy (more very imaginative lofi horror, I believe) from Japan though

watched Last Boy Scout last night for the first time in years. Willis is just playing john maclean again which is no bad thing, no one does hungover/having a bad day like bruce. :grinning:

watched Immortals last night. a shame that this is bathed in so much dogshit CGI, Tarsem has a distinct visual sensilbility when he lets rip. he doesn’t seem understand anything else about filmmaking! just seems like a total idiot - I guess all of his creative energies were spent on the Fall…

is there there a director who’s a bigger hack with a more recognisable style?

Quentin Tarantino

Tarantino should have done a 300 knock off

Would have been miles better than the 300 we got

not really saying much!

I will say I thought 300 2 was quite entertaining though

Was a prequel wasn’t it, so…er… 300 0?
