It looks like they just voted down anything added on by other parties that wasn’t the main point of the bill, as they also quashed a Tory attempt to allow alcohol in the stands and a separate amendment for a compensation scheme for ex-players with dementia.

I’m not really sure how I feel about any of this, but everything’s corrupt and run by total shits. I need to balance my want to still follow football with knowing it’s all essentially fucking awful.

The world cup has 100 years of sporting, cultural and social significance, that much like a club allegiance, is hard to shake if and when it becomes corrupted by evil money. I don’t really care about any country, but I’d love to be able to ditch my team and support someone based on ethical grounds, but it’s not really feasible.
The club world cup is laughable, unloved, entirely irrelevant and much easier to boycott and ignore on moral grounds.

Are many people engaging with this tournament? Feels like a bit of a straw man. I remember seeing it had comparable viewership to the Audi Cup pre-season tournament, during the group stage. I know we move in football nerd circles, but it seems broadly like a flop, in the UK at least.

Watched the first game and then most of the 5 o’clocks as I get home from work about 4:45 but once they binned them off I couldn’t be arsed. Would happily never hear Will Grigg’s on fire Freed From Desire ever ever ever again.
