Can’t wait for toy story 4 and dark phoenix to spoil everything

Feels harsh putting Dark Phoenix in the same group as Toy Story 4, although my mate has read the kids’ book version of TS4 and reckons it isn’t looking great

I need to see rocketman for a boost in the fanjo. Also booksmart but not for those reasons.

Hyped 4 this

Don’t get too excited.

Out of interest, what did you think of Peter Strickland’s earlier films (if you’ve seen them)?

Loved Katalin Varga and The Duke of Burgundy. Less keen on Berberian Sound System, although I’m not much of a fan of giallo, so that’s probably the reason.
Strickland is a real talent, but there can be a thin line between homage and pastiche and I think In Fabric falls here. As I’ve said elsewhere in these threads, it’s almost like an evening of 70’s telly where you get an hour long Tales of the Unexpected followed by a shit sitcom.

Ma is full of plot holes and is unbelievably nasty but I loved it.

The trailer gives it all away

Anyone got many plans for the Edinburgh International Film Festival? Looks like I’m finally going to see Blue Velvet!

The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) - not seen the original but this is great, first time I’ve seen it in years

I will be here for a long weekend around the 22nd/23rd but no idea yet what I’ll be seeing.

Whisper it quietly, but the remake is better than the original.

That weekend looks strongest out of the whole fest to me so good timing

Animals

Really good indeed. Sweet script, impeccably directed. I could really tell she was so fond of the characters/actors. Holiday Grainger was a brilliant lead but I think Alia Shawkat deserves awards. In fact: I demand it.

4.5 amazing coats, tops and accessories/5

Festival week! Schedule for tomorrow:

  • 3 Faces (Jafar Panahi)
  • Beats (Brian Welsh)
  • Queen of Hearts (May el-Toukhy)
  • The Beast in the Jungle (Clara van Gool)
