Difficult isn’t it? It’s between them and True Grit for me.
Going to go True Grit because of the lovely Carter Burwell score, Hailee Steinfeld, Jeff Bridges and it’s so beautiful - plus nobody else has voted for it so far.
Could do without the little bit of damseling towards the end but she is such a massively tough character it some way evens it out. Otherwise, an excellent film.

Brightburn: S’alright.

So Toy Story 4 was way better than it had any right to be.

I’ve always loved the series but it feels like the Bourne trilogy, in that they’re all the same (toys and audience coming to terms with growing up, new plot detail to expand universe, daredevil rescue, tears). This one felt like the first one to mix up the formula and try something genuinely different and I’m really grateful it did.

Preferred it to 3 by a fair way (always felt like a retread that one to me) and even maybe the original. Not as good as 2 but possibly just behind it on first watch.

Did feel like a lot of the usual cast were bit part players at times but liked it for that. Tried something different. Went some new places. Made me cry lots. Left me thinking, “yeah I could take being here in 4 years time for 5”

Also, some of it looked JAWDROPPINGLY nice. Chandelier scene, walking down the road in the dark, Bo Peep’s glossy face…

The fucking rain in that opening scene looked insanely, insanely good.

Yeah I’ve not seen much said about how good it looks. The carnival and antiques shops were absolutely breathtaking at times

On Toy Story 4… Do they not do Pixar shorts before their films anymore?

They have done until now, maybe they just didn’t have one this time

Has anyone else seen Sunset? It’s had a limited release and little advertising from what I’ve seen.

Not quite sure what to make of it. It’s what I expected in a lot of ways, but it just doesn’t quite click in a way I’m finding hard to describe. Need to watch it again to make my mind up on it.

That’s what I thought. Weird they didn’t have one this time.

Just saw the Maradona film

Felt quite a bit for him by the end. Obviously he did some very provocative things but essentially I saw it as the Napolitean people turning him into a deity and then breaking him down that was the real drive of the story…

saw toy story 4, it was pretty good but didn’t feel as essential. altho the animation is absolutely next level, truly gorgeous. the good stuff was so fkn good tho, would see a 5 if they make it. liked how they didn’t cop out at the end and i really enjoyed bunny and bird. keanu reeves performance was also brilliant.

there was a trailer beforehand for something called the queen’s corgi that offended me on almost every level.

From the makers of Gnomeo and Juliet!

one thing that always makes me laugh is how people forget pixar splice end credits clips, so without fail at every showing people get up, realise the film isnt over, and sort of awkwardly stand bent kneed in the aisle, then get readh to go again before another clip pops up, etc.

Leant over to the gf during the trailer for this and was like “classic upper classes, convicting the commoners that what’s good for them as an individual is good for everyone. That corgi is going back to the palace. The others will starve on the streets”

Thanks DiS
