Reckon I’ve spotted the issue here
I assume some weird hangover from the 70s / 80s. Possibly it’s actually just a sweet drink in SE Asia and was the only thing vegans could find to replace milk so it stuck that way? I only found out the sweetness was added in the last 10 years or so.
