Still a decent pub quiz question as “first band to…”, even if it’s been bettered. Which I’m not sure it has. If it has, it’s most likely by a producer with guest vocalists - Calvin Harris or Clean Bandit (as mentioned upthread) probably have by now.

Depends how you interpret it I suppose. The way I hear it, the “dark voice” is ominous, menacing, bad. It’s no more a reference to race than the “dark arts” in Harry Potter. It’s an allegory that’s been used for centuries without reference to race.

It’s just pop music really. Tempa T isn’t going to flip your mattress to search for the cash. Same thing.

So every, presumably black, person he meets is these things? Harry Potter isn’t set in Jamaica, that’s an irrelevant analogy. Also, saying “it’s just pop music” and referencing other irrelevant examples doesn’t excuse anything. Were you in the band? Seems an odd thing to try and defend.
