Since nobody’s correctly guessed the one band/three number one singles/different singers thing, I’ll throw out a cryptic Rockbusters clue re: a lyric from one of the tunes.

Obese male youth doesn’t show his emotions

I thought @JohnM was nominating Metallica because of the One singer?

You’re saying Spock was overweight as a child? Because Discovery hasn’t made that canon.

Time Stand Still. Great song. Other than the odd bit of spoken word on the early stuff (possibly Neil or producer Terry Brown on Caress of Steel for example) it’s pretty much all Geddy.

I’m really annoyed because I thought of 10cc and then decided it was wrong.

On a related note, how the fuck does Dreadlock Holiday still get played on the radio?

It’s based on his experiences of visiting the Caribbean, and it’s not really offensive.

It includes repeated reference to a ‘dark voice’ and every character mentioned is a criminal of some sort.

Depends how you interpret it I suppose. The way I hear it, the “dark voice” is ominous, menacing, bad. It’s no more a reference to race than the “dark arts” in Harry Potter. It’s an allegory that’s been used for centuries without reference to race.

It’s just pop music really. Tempa T isn’t going to flip your mattress to search for the cash. Same thing.

So every, presumably black, person he meets is these things? Harry Potter isn’t set in Jamaica, that’s an irrelevant analogy. Also, saying “it’s just pop music” and referencing other irrelevant examples doesn’t excuse anything. Were you in the band? Seems an odd thing to try and defend.

It’s a pop song about meeting four unsavoury characters, as opposed to an entire race. Plus, there’s no mention of race in the song.

:grinning: ok then.

Cocteau Twins? Can’t recall anybody but Liz Fraser on vocals, but I could be wrong

(dammit, forgot Faye Wong singing on an alternate Japanese-exclusive version of Serpentskirt, but that’s a pretty obscure track)

It’s really lucky the official video for the song that the official 10cc account has up doesn’t fully reinforce everything your saying, Funko…oh
