Not since he decided to work with 300 producers on each one. Executive producing, mixing and mastering those things must be a bitch

gonna stick my neck on the chopping board here, but I’m not that keen on Kendrick’s delivery. bit samey innit.

this doesn’t have much to do with this particular thread, but fuck it, it’s said now.

dull

Hmm I don’t think thats accurate! He’s easily one of the more versatile emcees in recent years. What have you heard? Maybe you just don’t like his voice (which is understandable)?

Yeah I def would agree. I just feel indifference m/l. Like it’s not something that makes me think this next project is going to go down in flames either. It’s just a natural/normal move to bring a legendary producer on board at this point in his career.

classic one-flow kendrick strikes again

yeah, the “samey” was ill thought. not keen on his many-layered deliveries is a more accurate description.

basically, his flow sucks imo

a good example would be his spot on Really Doe. he’s drags that absolute banger down, for me and is easily the worst rapper on that.

just my opinion though guys. not looking for a scrap

Im not scrappin. There are certain songs that I def don’t like him on.

by all accounts, ye called rubin in with less than a month to go til his deadline and he basically whittled 30 tracks down to 10. quite like yeezus on the whole but i don’t think you can pin it on rick rubin regardless.

you know what ships, I think I’m basically trapped in a late 80’s early 90’s hip hop void. not a bad place to be, mind

I think it’s alright, with a couple of great tracks, but it does sound pretty bad, at least to my ears

You could do worse! My fav era was prob 93-99 and then around 2004. I still love current stuff but I don’t have the exact same passion for it. There’s maybe a handful/dozen releases I would put up there with the 100s of favorites from those other eras.

it sounds horrible but I’m not sure rick had much of anything to do w that

I’m projecting at this point.

altho it is kinda weird you don’t like kendrick then cos he is a classic version of an emcees emcee.

nice. aye, I listened to hip hop religiously frfrom say 87-92, then I got into Floyd, Bowie etc and completely sacked it off til about 2004. worked with this real cool dude who introduced me to stuff like Doom, Madlib, Dilla etc and I was officially back in the game!
I say that, other than say Earl, KL, KA el-p, KM, Action Bronson a few other true dudes, my finger is well and truly off the hip hop pulse.
s’all about the jazz for me these days man. hard as fuck to keep tabs on multiple genres innit!

don’t sweat the technique!

Man i bet there’s tons more current stuff you would love but yeah, time and effort.

yeah man…and to be fair, I’m on a bus, dog tired and completely devoid of any semblance of a coherent thought pattern. I’m into way, way more stuff than I previously listed.
long day maaaaan

Rick Rubin is a great producer.

I don’t know anything about Rick Rubin. Why does everyone hate him?
