Just ordered a load of these on offer, with the idea of making scarves as Christmas presents for next year when I should be able to see family at Christmas (if you scroll down there are links to other similar ones)

Not quite knitting but tried out punch needle embroidery to make some Xmas decorations, this lil reindeer is my fave:

Also on tree, these pompoms we made! Very rewarding use of leftover yarn:

That reindeer is so cute! And those pom poms are a good idea.

I’m currently knitting a pair of socks in size 12, it’s taking so long :joy::joy: But will be all the more appreciated by someone who isn’t a very standard size I hope!

Inspired by @spaceshipped’s daily embroidery project in the Sewing thread…

Has anyone made a temperature scarf/blanket or anything similar?

The idea is you do one row/a set number of rows per day, following a colour chart that you base on the temperature in your area, eg red for over 30C, orange for 25-30, etc (depending on temperatures you’re likely to get!). Some people also do different shades of each colour for different weather conditions, eg brighter for sunny or greyer tones for cloudy

Some people have done similar ones like colour coding for how late their train is. A councillor did one where she knit in council in one colour every time a man was speaking and in another every time a woman was speaking (with predictable results).

That’s a good idea, I like it.

As of a week ago I knit so I’m popping into this thread to marvel and hope that one day I can be as good as you guys

A couple of weeks ago for my birthday my mother-in-law bought me a Wool and the Gang set to make a snood and after two or three nights practising on some cheap yarn and needles I made a start with the snood set yesterday. I come from a family of non-crafters whereas my MIL has knit all kinds of things including an amazing cable knit jumper for my husband, one day I’d like to be able to take on a project that impressive.

What stitch is this to join the squares?

I’m doing the same colours and love seeing the stitch, she says its mattress but I thought that was more of an invisible stitch?

That looks like whip stitch to me

I think I’m going to try and learn to knit again. I’ve tried in the past but never got beyond a scarf and basic knit stitch. I’ve loved seeing the photos of what you’re all knitting!

OK, feeling less confident at joining bits than I thought i might so I might do all the squares first, if I’m ever done :sob:

Probably a third of the way there, if that.

You’ll be fine once you’ve had a go, it’s probably the most intuitive way to join squares. This tutorial looks alright.

I haven’t joined a blanket for ages but I guess you can probably start in a corner and work along the diagonal, sort of, so leaving it to the end might be a good idea

How big is it going to be?

It’s for M so was going for sort of single bed size but wish I’d just made a blanket for her dolls instead!

That’s lovely but yes blankets can take a while! She’ll appreciate the effort you put into it when she’s older

Welcome aboard! It’s been roughly 3 months since I started up again and I can hardly imagine a time when I didn’t knit now :joy:

Help :sob: this is the second time I’ve got to the cast off point on my first knit and the second time that I’ve fucked something up right at the end and had to unravel it and I’ve got no idea what I’m meant to do now

This is what it looks like, I’ve tried to put each stitch back on the needle but it came out backwards? What do I need to do to salvage this?

When you pick up the stitches, you want the right side of the loop to be at the front and the left side at the back, like this…

So you poke the needle through each of those loops from the right and from behind. When you look at the needle from above and spread the stitches out a bit, the stitches should be slanted slightly like this \\

Does that help?
