Knitting 🧶 (also crocheting and etc)

I’ve got so much cotton yarn to use so going to be making lots of cloths and stuff. I like making the little face pads for toners etc. Might make a stack of them and can gift them to pals

I am also a member of the cotton scrap yarn dishcloth club.

The front one with the diamond motifs is a slip stitch pattern I found online from quite a few years ago, I couldn’t dig it out on a cursory Google but I can have a deepe look if anyone wants it. The others are just made up… I mean…

Self-drafted :face_with_monocle:

A couple of weeks ago I offered to show off some of my pattern collection, the vast majority of which is from the 1960s up until the 1990s. Since I’ve been able to escape my office for the afternoon I’ve decided to take some photos and have a look at some old favourites. So today I feature the first book in my collection and the first knitting book I ever thrifted, Picture Knits.

This one gives instructions on designing your own sweaters as well as a generic jumper pattern to use as a template, which ranges from a 20 to 46in chest, not the worst size range for vintage but could be better.

I particularly covet the monkey sweater and wish to make matching ones for Mr L and I… A white whale project, perhaps.

I’ve yet to make any of the patterns in this book or use its instructions for self-drafting.

That’s cute. Let me know if you find the pattern. Getting bored or the ones I’m making already

I am having absolutely no luck finding this pattern… I remember it was on a blog online. I’ve done reverse image searches and I’m combing through ravelry. Here are some that are close but not quite the same…

Legato Dishcloth | KnitPicks.com this one may be a different technique but thought it was cute.

Ravelry: Jacob's Ladder Dishcloth pattern by Ecoknitting not sure you use ravelry but this is a free download and I like that it’s called Jacob’s ladder

How to Knit a Two-Tone Dalek Dishcloth – Love Mel Creates also seems to use the same slip stitch technique

I remember it being fun and not hard. It has a wrong side which I quite like the look off and a fun spongy texture, absorbs a fair amount of liquid because of the doubling up of the yarn.

More of a waffle than a choclate bar

Also made it with a cool internal structure which means it is pretty sturdy and puffy

Today’s book is all about teddy bears

Not pictured: lots of celebrity bears such as Rupert and Paddington.

(If anyone wants any patterns from anything I post ITT let me know)

I haven’t made any patterns from this either. I do quite fancy making some tiny teddies as decorations…

Beatrix Potter knits featuring a christening robe and very disturbed looking Tom Kitten. I haven’t made anything from this one but would love a crew neck Peter Rabbit jumper as per the matching family set. Not sure about those knitted wool coats with the boucle situation at the button bands etc.

I actually would quite like the chart for the disturbed kitten please if that’s OK

Today’s feature… And the final book from my collection I’ll show (although I may feature my friend’s who has an entire library another time…)

Fashion Knitting. Some very impressive projects in here. I would love to make that sweater of the painting (wonder if Mr L would wear a bigger version) much duplicate stitch and yarn minis required I imagine…

Such a wide gap here between the ones I love (Great Wave, colour chart) and the ones I find upsetting to look at (the others, very not my bag)

Yeah… this one really is feast or famine.

The Great Wave is just

I try to feature a combination of the good, bad and ugly from these patterns haha.

I love how well they’ve done the sleeves for the Great Wave one

I appreciate the mix of good, bad and ugly. Excellent showcases

Making a hat

Crochet rib and short rows. Not done short rows in crochet before. The pattern is light on detail about how to sew it up at the end

Might be playing yarn chicken with this. I’ve weighed it and I think it’ll be OK but only just. Which I suppose is the ideal really, use the whole ball and have none left over - if it works out that way :grimacing:

Think I’m going to have to restart it anyway as it looks like it’s going to be slightly too tight. I’ve started another one on what I hope is a similar gauge of wool to try making it shorter and wider before I unravel this one, if that doesn’t work I’ll try a bigger hook
