Krakow

What’s good?

Going with a group of mates, all over 40. Suspect we will spend night 1 failing to relive our 20s, followed by a day of weapons-grade regret, but will still have a whole third day and night to fill and am hoping to direct the exhibition away from “hit the pub at lunchtime and don’t leave” on the Saturday

Beers for lads lads lads, main square. Not facing the square unless you wanna get rinsed it’s cheaper down the side streets. There’s one cheap bar on the main square, Pijalnia Wodki, it’s a chain but does decent beer and shots.

Not drinking stuff, walk round the jewish quarter and up to the castle. Jewish quarter is good for a less lads lads lads drink and food.

Theres’ a scare place which looks fucking mental, you can go easy which is them just jumping out in you and grabbing you in the dark or you can go hardcore where you might get tasered.

Really cool city.

Don’t know why anyone would do this but plenty do.

Obligatory mention of Massolit bookshop.

The Galicia Museum, if you are prepared to be very very sad

Did lost souls alley years ago but they didn’t have the different versions back then or pain levels. It was pretty decent actually, well designed and definitely tense as fuck.

The schindler museum is one of the most interesting museums of nazi Germany i ever visited (in a deeply crowded market). More about the way the museum is designed and structured, it takes you on a chronological journey.

Beyond that, its just a really nice vibes city. Wander round, find nice food, get fucked up on relatively cheap cocktails.

Just got back from a weeks holiday there, agree on Schindler’s Factory, really well laid out museum, definitely worth a visit.

That whole area, Zablocie, is a decent days worth of stuff to do, there’s the Modern Art Museum next door to the factory, a big food hall with a bar and music just behind it, loads of good places to eat, a Lego museum (genuinely good) and you can walk over the bridge through the Jewish quarter and past the castle back to the town centre. Great city.

Thanks everyone. Modern art museum with accompanying beer hall sounds like it might work. I’m not a complete outlier but definitely the “weird arty one” out of the group (or one of two, and the other one can’t make it). Will be pretty on-brand for me to drag them around a modern art gallery before a pint

Might save Schindler for the Sunday. I’m going to have to be moderate on Sunday night, got a big project kick off on Monday with various senior people from around the country involved so can’t afford to be on day 2 of a week in the hurt locker

I went in October 2024 and absolutely loved Krakow. Posted about some places we enjoyed, including MOCAK, the art gallery in one of the Schindler factory buildings here:

of those places, the beer gardens at Eszeweria & Mleczarnia (both in Kazimierz) would be excellent spots for some proper lads lads lads drinking, especially if the weather’s nice.

Defo book ahead for the Factory tour if you’re short on time. You can turn up on spec and get in but you’ll queue for ages. If you book ahead you can walk straight to the front of the queue at your set time. If you’re having a quiet day, Arcymonka bakery just round the corner has incredible pastries and coffee.

Plac Nowy in Kazimierz is a good spot for drinking around, you can get a late night zapiekanki when you finish too!
