And challenge the government who we should all agree with in order to make gammons vote Labour?

Looks like the latest Scottish Labour coup has started. Shadow Cabinet members resigning and/or briefing the papers against Richard Leonard.

I look forward to this same old shit again in 6-12 months.

Hard to know what they expect really. They came quite decisively third last time, not sure it was ever on the cards of doing better this time.

Unless there’s a Labour government in Westminster I just don’t see what Labour can do. The SNP will ensure the focus is always going to be on independence, and labour are stuffed because the argument for staying in the UK is not great when all they can point out is a Tory government. Meanwhile the Greens have proven themselves relatively competent so will peel voters off from the left, maintain their small number of seats and deliver a majority to the SNP.

Reckon the next set of local elections will be more “interesting” (from a nerd perspective), where you’ve got three way splits and SNP/Lab admins you’ll probably see more unionist votes shift to the Tories. Dunno how those places will work if that happens.

It feels like bizarre timing to me. Election in 8 months - Who do they reckon they can install to make a name for themselves in that time period? Personality vacuum James Kelly? The Marmite politician that is Jenny Marra? Nuclear weapon-supporting Jackie Baillie? Or someone who nobody outside the party has heard of? And if Richard Leonard doesn’t stand down then what then? Do they spend the campaign badmouthing their own leader? (Ha! Blairites aren’t they… Of course they’ll badmouth their own leader!)

They’ve fucked this election regardless, so why not just wait until it’s passed?

people are saying it’s about securing the places of Blairites on the ballot for the election, with a lot of people on the left pushing for a radical shake-up of the candidate lists with more new young candidates and a better left wing slate. I’m not too sure how the leader or leader’s office influences that but maybe it’s just a case of diverting the energy and resources of the left away from the selection battle and into this leadership one (which is a contemporary classic move of the modern Blairites)

Personally I’m tempted to say that it would be good if Richard Leonard stood down now and a more energetic and popular left candidate fought and won a leadership election. Perhaps living in dreamland a little bit but there are a couple of potential candidates.

The point about lists hadn’t really occurred to me - imagine it’s where most of Labour’s seats will come from again so I can totally see that being a massive pinch issue in the party.

Also didn’t realise until recently that the list carries through the Parliament - so when Kezia Dugdale stood down in 2018 the next person on the list from 2016 took over the seat. Which makes sense but again never occurred to me would be a thing.

Nothing else going on in the world to talk about, I suppose

PMQs was really noticeably bad today, Boris resorted to talking about Corbyn and the IRA again and Starmer had to keep getting him to retract it. Real pig shit politics by the Tories to be honest, as bad as Starmer can be, it’s always refreshing to remember the filth we’re dealing with.

The news just now were saying how great a job Starmer had done, I assumed it was a bit of boot licking, but if Boris was really that awful then fair dos I guess.

Oh good.

Starmer will back it, no question.

ah god. the word forensic made me bark out a sad laugh it was so accurate :’(

The whole thread is just bland, focus-grouped nothingness

Boris wants to watch his mouth, talking that way about the British public’s official pic for Best PM We Never Had

I do quite like “Excuse me? Take that back, you idiot” as a response to Boris’ mud-slinging via the IRA and stuff.

Johnson (and before him, May) were always awful at PMQs though. It just comes down to whether the hacks want to tell the public that.

Only hacks and MPs care though surely?

It’s all about seeding and setting the narrative though, which also means that you never have to talk about policy or anything like that.
