There are so many local issues that Labour could be directing their resources at. As Em says, it’s a case of rebuilding the connection in the people’s mind between the party and things getting done in the community. I guess you could even create a dedicated unit to the idea hahaha.

They have to brainstorm solutions to the full court press the media applied to them in the last election, the BBC, the Murdoch empire and tech companies working in tandem with one another to deny Labour any positive coverage. Starmer is delusional if he thinks they won’t do it to him too, now the machine has been built. I don’t really have any great ideas here but finding out which MPs keep counter-briefing to the press and isolating them as much as possible would be a start.

Offering free legal advice to zhc workers and couriers and broadcasting that widely would be a great way of reaching a huge and disenfranchised sector of the working public.

I think this also requires individual MP’s being engaged, passionate, involved and accessible. With a few exceptions, they’re not. They’re just managers too. Or worse, just preparing for a career in media.

Yes!

Helping people uncynically all the time rather than suddenly becoming visible in the run up to an election is not only the right and good thing to do, but will have a big impact electorally. And even if it doesn’t it’s still good

There’s also the central party machine being heavy handed when no-one wants them, and not helping when people ask.

There’s a local councillor where I live who’s a nightmare. She thinks it’s her god-given right to become MP and that she must sabotage anyone who gets in her way (especially other women, there can only be one Labour Woman in our local area). Except she never gets the nomination, so turns her energy to tearing down whoever does.

Our last candidate was excellent, but got no support from central office, because she was backed by Momentum. There was a anonymous muck-raking blog about this candidate set up, raking over her life for scandal (they couldn’t find any or make much out of anything) and racist dog-whistles because this candidate is mixed race. The blog claimed that this candidate was “unsuitable” for the area, and it was insulting to have her as candidate because she’s “too educated” for the local people. It was very clearly the nightmare local woman and her pal doing it, and there were also anonymous complaints against the candidate sent to head office, which she had to waste time and energy defending herself against.

The same nightmare local woman also saw a local activist doing a campaign about an important local issue, and instead of backing it, set up her own rival group and tried to sabotage and harass the woman running the campaign.

Yet head office do absolutely nothing about the nightmare woman, despite people complaining about her again and again with evidence, because she’s doing useful work for them chasing away left-wingers and grass roots activists.

I actually didn’t renew my Labour membership because of this woman and not wanting to deal with her bullshit.

Coulda gone with excited for, but you’re one o’ the good 'uns.

But also, really did enjoy the beforetimes blinder chat.

Or yeah sorry, can a mod edit my post please?

 :smiling_imp:

I was canvassing in Bolton in 2019 and some old pench told me to clear off her doorstep and go back to wherever I’ve been bussed in from because she only sees Labour when it’s time to vote but she’s sees Conservatives who actually live round here picking up litter every week… And I didn’t have anything I could say to that

I mean I could’ve said yeah Gladys that’s because they’re all retired and have the time for it, I’m keeping the engine of capitalism running,on equivalent wages that you would’ve spat at back in your day, but it wasn’t the time for that talk

tbf they will have been MPs for longer than Sir Keir Starmer QC

Surely that’s partly making the point. One of the things people attribute Starmer’s ineffectiveness to is his inexperience.

Who are/is Politics For All?

They seem to have suddenly jumped in popularity recently.

No idea wonder if it’s a TLDR News type of thing where they’re trying to build towards being a mini news outlet.

Amazing how this thread title manages to stay relevant every day.
