That verse vocal melody is blatant, the way she sings manifest-oooh especially.

There’s also a lyric about chasing rainbows, get Shed 7 on the line they’ll need a bit of cash.

I haven’t read the intricacies, I was just assuming it was simplistic reporting and the only result would be that her song gains the writing credits of Creep.

But the Hollies thing was out of court so maybe they got a cash sum plus writing listing but no future royalties? If so I guess they will have been pretty pissed off when RH went on to become massive rather than the expected one-album failures.

I love Burn The Witch. The strings in the second verse are unbelievable.

I reckon it’s fine, just doesn’t really fit the album/sticks out like a sore thumb

It’s a weird one.

On the one hand, The Bends/OKC/Kid A etc are all infinitely better than Creep and so they have deserved their ongoing success regardless of The Hollies.

On the other, would they have had the financial backing etc without that initial success of Creep?

Hmm?

Either way, I’m trying not to read this thread as it contains an awful lot of standard DiS Radiohead bashing and they’re one of my favourite bands. The Lana del Ray song is hilariously similar – if I’d written it I’d have binned it off as an obvious clone.

the live version that’s more bass/drum-led is so much better, really hate those strings

Agree it doesn’t fit the album, but I absolutely love it. Also, I’m aware no-one else does, which I can’t fathom but whatever. Maybe they wrote it just for me. Love the way the plucked strings go to pizz. bowed for the 2nd chorus. Mmmmmmm.

Changing my vote because I actually listened to the LDR song and it’s so blatant it can’t possibly be a coincidence.

feel like it’s mainly there just so jonny gets to do his big important strings man bit, even though it doesn’t fit at all

Creep kept them there until The Bends I guess. It’s hard to know, though, as tonnes of minor Parlophone bands at that time got a 2nd album without that sort of hit. They just made really shit 2nd albums…

It’s there because they had to have at least one track that stood out as interesting

Do people not like ‘Burn the Witch’?

I love these boards, but I sometimes have to say “Mate, these boards” at stuff like this
