Lancaster

Though lol @ “Blackburn with Darwen” as the unitary authority of my birth has about as much influence as Liechtenstein.

Thoughts on Lancaster? Very nice, quite elegant and historic, and you’re so close to some amazing countryside in the Lake District, Ribble Valley/Forest of Bowland and (grits teeth :face_with_hand_over_mouth:) Yorkshire Dales. Had a lot of friends from sixth form who went to the university but nearly two decades ago so I can’t comment massively on the place in 2023, it felt a bit cut off from the town/city centre but the campus is so big and well integrated with library, shops, social venues etc. it feels like a town in itself so if your son likes that kind of set-up, he might love it :+1:

Was there yet again yesterday visiting AD Jnr mk1.

Every visit there are more good eateries/cafes! So many good veggie/vegan options too. Becoming favourite cafe-focused destination.

Herbarium: vegan, very cool shabby/chic. Excellent coffee/tea/funky tea/cakes etc. Super staff. Menu looked nice for proper food.

Journey Social: Omni. Absolutely top-tier fancy brunch/coffee. I had turmeric houmous, poached eggs, halloumi, avo/pea mash/chilli jam/sour dough toast. 10/10, will go again.

Whale tail: veggie, always spot-on for snacks, coffee or lunch.

Sun Inn: 100% dependable for evening hang-out, good service and nice pub food Not exciting, but always solid.

Morecombe: Every day is like Sunday.

Williamson Park: perfect park for obligatory walk round park during parent/student visit, with spectacular views.

Had a great night out in Lancaster with the lad yesterday. Ate at the Sun based on @AttackDuck recommendation, and a couple of beers at The Stonewall Tap and The Accidental Brewery, both with a massive selection of awesome beers. Even the lad had a half and he doesn’t drink.

I’m half hoping he chooses to go to Uni there just for my weekends away drinking.

We love visiting our student there for similar reasons. Just a good place to hang out, and not (yet) too expensive for student life to be fun. Ace!

Was also in Lancaster yesterday - Herbarium in particular was great, staff seemed super lovely and the food was really good.
