Last.fm general thread

Spotify is the same, couldn’t live without pro last.fm features.

It’ll be great when I’m trying to edit albums (track by track) on mobile which is a huge pain since the page keeps zooming in a bit after each edit and you have to zoom back out to see everything you need to click on. At least on iOS.

I’m champing at the bit to edit a full album, but afaik my stats are clean up to now, occasionally find some old scrobble when I dip into a certain artist I haven’t listened to in a while. Better listen to something new (collab or remaster) to try it out.

That is one the most minor of inconveniences I deal with in life and yet it’s one of the most annoying

Just started listening to Air’s Virgin Suicides…time to dive in.

Oh, cool.

Edit: Despite the error, after fixing the tagging on The Virgin Suicides it showed that 10 000 Hz Legend had been updated.

Looks like there’s a major flaw in the album edit feature. Because the modal only lets you edit album name and Album Artist, not Artist, you can’t actually fix collaborative albums (or ones where the primary artist may be incorrect) with this feature and still have to do them track by track. Big fail here, need to check the community forums and see if it’s been called out. Think for comps, DJ sets, etc. this would work just fine since the artist is unique to each track. But collabs are one of the things I find myself fixing the most on last.fm (next to removing Remastered crap) and it’s disappointing that this doesn’t fix that.

A few examples:

Album should be credited to Anadol & Marie Klock. Changing Album Artist to that doesn’t change it being scrobbled as just Anadol.

The album is by Gangrene, The Alchemist and Oh No being the members. Changing Album Artist to Gangrene doesn’t change it being scrobbled as The Alchemist.

Looked up some details on the new feature in the Community Forums and came across this, so they’re aware but this is their logic.

Album edits only support ‘album artist’ changes at present. Remember that a scrobble is comprised of both a track artist and an album artist to correctly account for compilation albums. To fix this, you will still need to edit the individual tracks to the correct spelling.
We apologise for the inconvenience – we may update this behaviour in the future, but at present we don’t support artist edits due to the logic around creating and updating edit rules, and their hierarchical nature. i.e. Changing an artist from A->B could potentially lead to an ‘explosion’ of new album and track rules being automatically created and updated. At the very least we want to see how people get on with the new album edit functionality first.

Can’t seem to edit the album on mobile at the moment. It’s very annoying. I touch the edit button, but nothing happens.

Listened to a couple of tracks on Bandcamp on my phone as I was going to bed last night and then paused it at the start of the next track, and last.fm has somehow scrobbled that next track 82 times through the night. Great.

…you can link BC to Last.fm?!

It doesn’t have the native option like Spotify does where you just enter your last.fm details in the player and it works, but if you download the Last.fm app (or a third party scrobbling app) you can scrobble from various music apps on your phone including Bandcamp.

Woah what? Might start listening to more things on Bandcamp (once I figure this out). How do you do it? I have the last.fm app on my phone and personal laptop.

If you go into Settings on the last.fm app on your phone it should bring up a list of apps you can scrobble from. If you have the Bandcamp app downloaded as well then it should be in there.

Don’t think that option was always available, as I used to use different third party scrobbler apps to do it instead, but I went back to the last.fm app recently and it can do it now.

Won’t work the same on the desktop app on your laptop as that works differently but should work on your phone.

Looks like it’s only on Android and has been for a while. Gah.

Not seeing Bandcamp as an available app. TBH I’m not seeing any apps at all (and that’s why I stopped trying to scrobble from mobile devices).

Oh, are you on Android or iPhone? You could try playing something on the Bandcamp app while you’ve got the Last.fm app open and then it might appear in the list, I think it has to detect the notification first.

If you’re on iPhone then you might be out of luck according to @paulo

Yeah I’m also not seeing a list of apps to scribble from (iPhone), just an on/off toggle that says it’ll only scrobble local files. I’ll try listening on BC and see if anything appears, but even on the support forums it doesn’t mention iOS.

Fair, I’m on Android so no idea about iOS

Think this was the ticket, I let a song play all the way through and then checked to see if the apps list was populated and BC showed up with a toggle next to it. The track I played didn’t scrobble and the next track also didn’t show up but the third is showing up as “Scrobbling now” on my desktop.

I do find it can be a little bit inconsistent and miss tracks sometimes for some reason but it picks up most of them
