Got 10 moochers on my list.

I think I’m just following everyone who took part in my mad chart experiment.

It’s still amazing to me that many of the artists I listened to a lot in the late 00s and early 10s are still hanging onto the top 10-15 slots in my overall library. Goes to show how streaming changed my listening habits. More fragmented, more artists, less repeat listening. Good and bad. Very interesting. Thanks for reading. The only artists that seem to have broken through the top 15 are just very prolific (Oh Sees, Ty Segall) or boosted by listening clubs (Sonic Youth). Otherwise pretty funny that my top 15 makes me look like a grandpa simply because I spent a lot of time “discovering” the albums of classic groups like The Beatles, Stones, Kinks, and Byrds. The Warp records bring me back down to my actual age.

10 from ~2005-13, powered by my ripped CD collection (I did a substantial amount of my listening then just putting Winamp on random and setting it loose on my whole library), 2 from 2025 powered by streaming.

Muse are still in my top 10 and I’ve not listened to them since 2012. The 6 years before however have a lot to answer for.

Looks like I’ve stayed fairly consistent

My all time top 10

Blame @Yesiamaduck for the Residents. Must be quite hard for a jazz artist to hit the top 10s with the much longer track times.

Looking through my top 50 and there’s probably only 4 or 5 acts I don’t listen to at least once a year. Even in the top 100, I’d say there are only about 10 acts I haven’t listened in the past 5 years. So I’d say mine is still pretty accurate

Since I listen less and less to new music and to fewer complete albums (preferring to shuffle or move tracks on and off current playlists), my all time has a bias towards old bands who’ve always been my favourites.

So my all time and since 2020 lists are almost identical with just a couple of up to date jazz folks, Ezra Collective and Ashley Henry, and my increasing love for PWEI and Cud displacing indie staples Super Furries, New Order, Teenage Fanclub and Pulp.
