The Maccabees at Edinburgh Corn Exchange
My first time seeing them. I adore seeing a band having the time of their lives up on stage and the Maccabees showed this perfectly, especially Felix. He seemed to really love connecting with the crowd. I think he made eye contact with as many people as he could.
The songs sounded immense, banger after banger after banger. This was an intimate pre-show before the tour proper, so the back third of the venue was sectioned off which made it much more palatable.

Let’s not lie, I probably wouldn’t have given this gig any thought if it weren’t for him supporting. 10/10 as always.
First support act was a band called Chartreuse, who I know nothing about but made a nice noise.

Chewing Glass Collective + Casket Feeder + Dead Harts, @cafe kino, Bristol
No, you thought it would be a really good idea to go and watch three heavy bands in a tiny basement on an insanely hot night.
CGC were on first and were very grindy. I enjoyed it to begin with but they ran out of steam fairly quickly and in the end it was a long half hour.
Casket Feeder bought some death metal next and were pretty good. They had the biggest crowd of the night (about forty people) plus some gnarly riffs. I do wonder how many death metal bands have a song called “Sentenced To Death” though, I bet it’s a lot.
Final act was Dead Harts and unfortunately most of the crowd had left after Casket Feeder. Their loss, as DH were intense metallic hardcore. Can’t have been much fun driving from Sheffield to play to about twenty people in an inferno, but they were committed and really went for it. Very tight, very heavy, would be a good ATG band I think.
Not going to be the greatest gig I go to all year, but a decent night out, plus it was raising money for Refugee Women of Bristol so all good.

The Maccabees and Everything Everything
Really great. Had initially changed my mind about going cos of heat and exhaustion but felt guilty as my wife would be going on her own. Maccabees aren’t my fav band by any means but they have so many great riffs and tunes. Really impressive live band.
Also everyone was in their 30s or older. Often the case at the Eden shows. They’re bloody pricey and awkward to get to.

Two Beers In is a proper crowd anthem now and I just do not get it
Two Beers was the track of the set tbf. Maybe only because I know it better than most of their stuff.
