One of the best live bands around currently.

Where was this? :open_mouth:

Steve Mason the other night in the Empire in Belfast, supported by Pictish Trail.

i’ve only dipped in and out of Mason’s solo stuff before but it sounded pretty good live, usually better than the recordings. he’d only been doing stuff off his solo albums when i checked his setlists when the gig was first announced, so i wasn’t sure if i was gonna go, but i checked back last week and saw he was doing Beta Band stuff so definitely had to go. opened with Inner Meet Me and did Dry The Rain in the encore (w/ Pictish) along with King Biscuit Time’s I Walk the Earth. lovely.

also nice to see Pictish Trail again. had some great stage banter (as did Mason)

Kings place - Josephine Stephenson who played in her band did a full string arrangement of the whole album. I really hope they release a recording of it because it was incredible

That sounds amazing

Thursday at the Electric Ballroom. They did Full Collapse in full then a five song encore finishing with War All The Time. It was excellent. Saw them touring Full Collapse opening for the Movielife twenty years ago so was very nostalgic. Geoff Rickly still has an excellent voice for someone who really can’t sing. A lot of fun. Wish I could afford to do night two tmrw when they’re doing War All The Time in full.

Is that Stu from No Devotion/ Lostprophets?

Didn’t realise but apparently so! Looks like he’s been playing on quite a few of the anniversary shows.

Julia Jacklin at Kentish Town Forum

I turned up about a song into her set as I was working late. The first song I heard was Body. I was feeling a bit under the weather, got a pint in (and then another afterwards) and sat at the back up top and found it to be a perfect soothing gig after my day. She came across and sounds like a lovely person. Such a brilliant new album.

Just got in from Yama Warashi at Cafe Oto. Really great, 6 piece band, all of them were out of this world and even though it was very technical and had loads of polyrhythms and weird time signatures going on it always felt very warm and fun.

They’re apparently recording before xmas and have more stuff out and gigs/tours next year, go!

Just saw Ride in Oxford at the Town Hall. Probably the best I’ve ever seen them, even though the set list was heavy on new material. Think the volume helped - it was incredibly loud. Pretty sure I saw my boss there at one point too, so I’ll ask him about that in the morning.

Blanck Mass at Clwb Ifor Bach. Felt like I was in a trance for the whole set. Just got totally engrossed in the visuals whilst being pummeled by the noise. Flat out loved every minute of it!

Idles last night at the barrowlands.
A classic barras gig, messy, sweaty, jumpy and great fun.

Our Girl at Peckham Audio

Seen the band many times before. I hadn’t been to the venue.

Our Girl are gem of a British indie band. ( they’re far better than Big Moon.)

As ever, they’re brilliant live. The new songs sounded really good too. Really liked the venue. Never been there before. There were excellent viewing points and a good bar too; well they do a Neck Oil and a Gamma Ray and so I was happy. Very close to the station for the train for a North Londoner like me too to get home.

Great night (especially after a late shift at work.)

Band of Skulls.
My wife is a big fan so I went along.
It was ok in a 70’s rock kinda way but it was nice to see the band having fun rather than being an over serious bunch of sad sacks.

Torche @ The Green Door Store, Brighton

If ever there was a night to forget my earplugs this was not it.

Lots of stuff off last two albums. Very fucking loud. A lot of fun. They aren’t as much of a party band any more but definitely benefited in sheer riffing power from replacing every member with Paige Hamilton.

Pijn in the Black Heart.
They played their album start to finish and it was brilliant. 80 minutes of teeth rattling Post Metal. They seemed to be having a great time as well.
Extra bonus points for the bassist rocking out and throwing some amazing shapes :grinning:
