The Comet Is Coming at Shepherds Bush Empire. Impressive and immersive, the sax dude was amazing. The “jazz rave” songs weren’t my cuppa tea though, bit too banging, much prefer their deeper spiritual cuts. Sold out show and a massive amount of love in the house for them.

I saw them in Bristol on Wednesday. They are soooooooo gloriously heavy.

Was also at this, although much further towards the back! Was a fantastic gig.

Admiral Fallow at St Lukes, great gig, new stuff sounded great on first listen

Blanck Mass - The Underground Plymouth, most intimate venue I’ve ever been to I think. Only about 100 people there. Respect to Ben for playing in Plymouth. A city where the live music scene is pretty dire. A local band called Aches opened. They were pretty awful. The two drag Queens who are touring with him were brilliantly talented and funny. As for Blanck Mass. stunning set of about 1 hour. Visuals were amazing. The set was mainly made up of music from animated violence mild. Highlights were House vs House and No Dice.

Had to read this a few times, can’t quite believe he played there.

Neither can I. A city of 270,000 people but about 100 people there. Such a shame more didn’t go. Rob Beckett was doing a stand up show in Plymouth last night too which may not have helped.

My dream a few years back was to win the lottery and turn the old Drake Cinema on the roundabout at the bottom of Royal Parade into a venue, with a couple of different sized rooms. Could have got 1500 and 300 cap rooms in there I reckon.

It’s a casino now.

Yep. Plymouth needs a decent music venue for smaller acts. (Incidentally do you do the weird walk mag? I’ve bought the first two issues)!

I only do Weird Walk in the sense that I buy and enjoy it! The English Heretics graphic made me laugh, so i figured it would be a good idea to lift it for an avatar and reduce it to a size where no one could actually read what attracted me to it in the first place…I also once came very close to buying a house in Stanton Drew, which is the guided walk in issue 2. I still go there every so often to keep an eye on the stones.

Back to venue chat, the Cooperage had a decentish run (saw Muse there more times than is healthy), but that’s been gone almost twenty years now, hasn’t it? Never heard of the Underground tbf, but I haven’t lived there since 2002. Where is it?

It’s on mutley plain below a pub called the dog & duck. Stanton Drew is lovely. Visited for first time this year to see the stones. I love old stones like that however I’ve seen better arrangements.
There’s a lovely thatched house near Stanton drew that has its own Instagram page!
I moved to Plymouth 21 years ago. I went to the cooperage once. I saw the dub pistols. There was another live venue just off union street opposite the pavilions called The Hub which closed two years ago. I saw Gaz Coombes there. As for the underground it’s the first time I’ve been but if they attract the acts I’ll definitely go again. As I say. Very small and authentic feeling.

I live right by Stanton Drew. Love it down there. I really want to have a walk around the round house one day (the one on the roundabout)…

Hot Snakes in Belfast were very fun

also went to see two of Belfast’s best bands on Friday night, Documenta (7 piece shoegaze/psych/‘drone-pop’ band) and Junk Drawer (previously quite 90s slacker indie rock but gradually drifting further and further into psych/krautrock territory)

mainly posting cos i quite like this picture i got of Documenta

Comet Is Coming at Rough Trade East

Finally I get to see them. Various work shifts over the last two or three years meant I couldn’t make their London dates. Great live and nice people during the album signing…then

L’Epee at EArtH

Brilliant venue. Brilliant set. @jack_on_fire used the word “Epic” to describe their set at Brighton. I’ll second it for tonight.

No, didn’t go in the end as I wasn’t feeling great. Glad it was good! Such a good band.
