L'esprit de l'escalier

Always thought this is one of the best phrases. Perfectly encapsulates the feeling of recognising the perfect retort when it’s too late. Everyone’s been there.

Tell us what you wish you’d told them. In this thread.

Or don’t. See if I care. I’m living my best life here, in my pants with a do-it-yourself standing desk.

The spirit of the escalator

I’m a big fan of it too. No examples right now but wanted to show my support.

You’re a good kid.

Can’t think of any

i like “l’appel du vide”

The apple of the video.

Ooh, me too. That’s very good. Didn’t know there was an expression for that.

I suppose it also covers the desire to shout out at weddings and in theatres too, to a lesser extent.

Or maybe it doesn’t.

i dunno saps, probably have to ask someone french to clarify

I’m not French but happy to authorise this because I get a strong urge to shout at weddings.

Philippe Flop to thread.

Not sure if this is still true, but when I did RE at school I asked my teacher (Wendy ) what happens if someone objects. She said they call the police.

Wendy Heart or Wendy Love?

Wendy My Love

I’ve got something in my eye.

I had no idea there was an actual expression for this - amazing! Happens all the time to me

Can you remember what you wanted to say?

I can’t recall anything at the moment - they tend to be fleeting and if I dwell on them it winds me up
