I have only ever known those as hanjie puzzles. My Mum likes them but she voted Brexit so don’t know.

picross = Brexit Party confirmed :frowning:

I think 1 down is European but I don’t know why except I solved the anagram.

I clicked reveal on a few answers and even then I couldn’t understand the link between the clue and the answer.

e.g. 2 down (includes answer) Clue: Endless protest in capital. OK, so I guess ‘in capital’ could mean the answer is some of the letters in the word capital? And endless could mean excluding the letter ‘L’ maybe? hits reveal Oh it’s fucking ‘Oslo’ No idea how that fits. Now I feel dense.

Ah you can just hit reveal and see the answers. EVERYBODY OUT.

The theme appears to be Europe, I think.

Forget it zxcvbnm, it’s marckeetown

that was the lines I was thinking along, but didn’t realise you could see the answer. would never have got that :man_shrugging:

It is go-slow but “endless”, ie without the first and last letters

The guardian cryptic crossword might be the worst bit of the whole paper

I like the telegraph one

18d - entresol : anagram (rebuilding) of “lose rent”
24d - beta : homophone of beater (sounds like whisker)
10a - loco : loo (can) “containing” c (one hundred in roman numerals) = bananas
22a - in situ : anagram (funny) of university without very
24a - boer (no I didn’t know this word either) - BOE (bank of England), a cirt institution, + R (right)
22d - indigo : in (fashionable) + dig (like) + o (old)

26a - angstrom : angst (fear) + rom (roma without the a)
Slow going so far
15a - inter se : inter (Italian footballers) + ‘se’ (spoke, vacuously, so without the middle letters)
1d - this one gives the theme then. European : anagram (maybe) of ‘a pure one’

13d - the tin drum : film (ET) ‘screened by’ thin (lean) to give the tin. can’t figure out the last word there but that’s a post war story.
12a - semtex : anagram of met+sex (Congress)

Congratulations to Tuna, who I never want to be up against in a crossword competition.

25d I think - sauna : ‘una’ for the Spanish feminine one, dunno what the ‘sa’ is. Sex appeal? They do get Very Hot

This is a team effort chief
I’ll come back to this on the train later, hope you will have all finished by then

This Picaroon chappie is a shit compiler. This is a shit crossword.
