I was doing my masters in your final year then. Spent most of that year in the Michael Sadler building

Peter Symonds College 2005-07 with long long time gone DiSer melesmeles - think he was at manchester at the same time as @anon82218317 and others? i was in his band when we were 18 and of the people in that band 3 appeared on University Challenge which is a pretty good hit rate

then i was at City University 2007-10 doing a music undergrad and towards the end acoulethic was doing a masters (pretty sure he’s been through at least 2 new names since that one)

didn’t spend much time at uni though, mostly i was either reading DiS or I was working in the same call centre as @pip

know quite a few people who went to oxford and loads who went to oxford brookes, can’t say any of the stories in this thread about elitism surprise me

Ah, yes! Languages/philosophy MA then? My first couple of years were in the philosophy department there, so know that building all too well.

:+1: PSC! PSC!

oh yeah i remember reading that, good stuff

yo @still_here and @anon67149139 did you guys go to Symonds then? Hampshire is the best

Yeah except I hate hampshire (sorry!)

intruiging! why?

I miss MelesMeles, but he seems like a very angry man now, having read that piece. My parents are from near said village, maybe I should ask him out for a maxibon next time I’m home.

Just find it to be the embodiment of boring englishness. Doing something exciting in Hampshire = going to an upmarket, old-fashioned pub to eat a nice pie. Whilst waiting at the bar to pay you’ll end up talking to some 50 year-old guy in a gilet who fancies himself a man of the soil but drives a spotless new Land Rover. You studiously avoid saying anything that could prompt him to give his opinion on something.

Nice. What were you studying?

Yep, translation!

where are you parents from? i grew up in swanmore which is small but had a school that served a large area as it’s the middle of knowhere

My non-cycling work/social life summed up in one sentence.

GOD BLESS THE 'SHIRE

I went to 6th form in Hampshire! Brockenhurst College. The comments about pubs and pies and gilets and Landrovers are pretty accurate but I still love the New Forest.

You were in my wife and brother’s year at college, and started when I finished!

haslemere, which isn’t that close actually. we just used to play football all the time near Meles town.

Hit the nail on the head there, hence me not living there anymore!
