Had rats about a year ago in my loft and in the cavity walls. Some little shit had gone round kicking in all the air vents along the back wall of the flats so they got in and set up nests over the winter. I own my flat in a council run building and had to pretty much threaten the council to get someone out ASAP to sort it out. As far as I’m aware they never got into the flat but just the noise alone they made was horrendous.

There are rats living down in the garden, we watch them from our 1st floor flat congregating below the bird feeder waiting for crumbs and nuts to fall from the birds above. The lady downstairs has put poison and traps down but doesn’t seem to have had any perceivable impact.

Also have wood lice, often see the odd one in the bathroom looking lost, usually just chuck them out the window. Probably get eaten by the rats idk

We came back from Canada to find droppings everywhere. So I popped out some mouse traps and killed 18 of them. Released one into the wild. Had to put two out of their misery. The live traps were utterly useless, and one of the kill traps was useless, but “Old Faithful” got near enough 14 of the blighters. Started big a grey and went right down to small and… well, upsetting to be quite frank.

Thought I’d got them after a few weeks of quiet but then found another daddy in the trap and got another six or so. So total kill was around 26 of them, so a proper infestation.

We live rurally so it’s isn’t surprising, and they’re doing a new water piepline through the fields so they are pretty much being forced into the house.

Had ants too, but that was a piece of piss. Put a biat trap down, watched them swarm all over it’s tasty goodness, and taking the bait back to the nest. Dead and gone within 48 hours.

That’ll be from a dead rodent in the floorboards/walls. They lay their eggs and then a few weeks later burst out, go everywhere, and then disappear.

Previous place I lived, flat on the top two floors of a six storey block, discovered quite quickly after moving in had both cockroaches and bed bugs. Yay. Got the council pest control round and they said that it’s virtually impossible to actually get rid of either out of blocks, you just have to make it easier for them to go elsewhere in the building. Some hard core cleaning, steaming and chemical warfare and neither ever came back.

Have had a few mice over the years in current place. Nothing major fortunately. Next door neighbour had bees make a hive in his loft a couple of years back - paid someone to destroy the hive, which I think might be illegal.

Flat I lived in in Sydney had endless giant flying cockroaches and fairly regular visits from huntsman spiders…

we had bees at my parents house once - built a nest in the loft and started getting into the house etc

A science teacher at the local school was an amateur bee enthusiast - he came round with all his gear and took them to a farm or something

Got really scared when behind the microwave found a load of insect egg looking things, looked on top in the cupboard with the boiler in, thousands of the things, thought a biblical plague was going to take over the flat turned out to be cavity insulation beads

My wife had an infestation of fleas thanks to her dog being a mucky prick and them forgetting his flea treatment (three of them between them thought the other person had done it).

That was fucking grim.

The exterminator guy was about to gas them or whatever and was saying “This is the really tough part of the job” and my friend was all “Yeah, yeah - bet it’s really sad. Now please get the fucking things out of my house”

This thread has put the fear into me. Rats and mice can do one. Goes back to when I was a child and I put my hand in a hole in a wall to retrieve a tennis ball and I pulled out a dead mouse. My fingers in its rotting carcass.
