Letter from America (Radio 4)

Been listening to these fifteen-minute BBC radio shows about American politics, culture, world affairs, etc, which aired from the mid-1940s until the host’s death in 2004. Probably really famous, idk. They’re fucking excellent.

Had a couple about Watergate on earlier (broadcast in May 1973 if anyone’s interested). Really surreal listening to dispatches from the time given current events.

This was the first one i listened to. Grim obviously, but pretty powerful stuff…

They were at the time. Maybe they still are. I remember my folks having a book edition and the cover having an amazing photo of a huge American steam locomotive.

They’re great aren’t they? Pretty much document the rise and fall of the post-war consensus. He lived through interesting times
