But these things are usually already excluded / caveated. Existing conditions etc. No one should be denied insurance against death by the many other means it could strike.

Still, the answer is that actually someone at Lloyd’s would do it but the premiums would be silly :frowning:

Yeah I need to look in to it I guess. I suppose ultimately I’m thinking the most likely cause will be one of those things (or my crohns, which is another ped) so it’s really not worth it to get cover.

more life insurance chat. had a blood test today for one thing, but when I asked the nurse whether the reason for the test was still on the system because it had been delayed from pre lockdown, she said there were several things on there that she has combined in one test to check. I should have asked what tests but didnt, but suspect they might test for diabetes, think I have a lot of risk factors, and it would make total sense, and to be honest I would be very surprised if I don’t have at least pre-diabetes to be honest given my diet and lifestyle.

Anyway, would that affect life insurance, should I get life insurance right now before the test results are back?

I imagine they would check test/diagnosis dates etc before paying out anything so probably not worth rushing. You’d have to declare it at some point. I don’t honestly know how diabetes would influence the cost anyway though sozza.

Hope the results are what you are hoping for with the tests anyway

The app form will ask whether you have had a blood test and also if you are waiting for the results of one, so you’d have to disclose anyway.
If there are any indications of diabetes then that will affect the premiums, perhaps (if it were quite severe diabetes) mean you wouldn’t be able to get any cover.
Always best to be honest because if it came to a claim there would be checks done and if anything untoward came to light then it might not pay out.

Yeah honestly. I’m never honest at the Dr’s due to life insurance. “You still teetotal?” Absafuckinglutely doc!
There should be a chat you have with your GP, that is a mandatory part of their job where they go through how your medical record is entirely private and your own family won’t gain access to it, but if you die they will hand it over to the first person from the call centre that chases it up when you die to forensically go through your file to see if you omitted that you once tried marijuana

When your results are back you can ask your doctor’s receptionist for a copy of the results and that will tell you everything they’ve tested for (you’ll need to google what the different things are).

no, unless I didnt follow instructions. it was massively delayed because of lockdown, but dont think I was supposed to fast

Feel free to send me the names of the tests once you find out, and I can run through reasons why they’ve been done. It’s perfectly normal to request this info and the test results, it’s your data after all

ah right, hopefully that means I wasn’t tested for it, or messed up the test. the main test was because I get foot pain sometimes which I think might be gout, so they test for whatever the chemical that causes that is, don’t know what the other tests they referred to are then. just assumed they might test for diabetes because to be honest I probably should be, but guess they wouldn’t do that without telling me

Not particularly, but it won’t be things like ‘diabetes’ or ‘liver disease’ it will be glucose, hb1ac, alanine transferase etc. You might be able to work it out yourself but I was just offering my knowledge

Best to state you are waiting on the results of a test and supplying the results for the underwriter to review. Whilst your waiting they won’t offer cover until they know the results. Non disclosure.of anything might invalidate a claim so better be safe than sorry.

It’s pretty standard to test for a range of things and I imagine the nurse/doctor just said an few things’ because they couldn’t be bothered to explain each one.

ah ok, it was something about the way she said it like ‘yes there are a few things on the system but i’ve grouped them together’ that made me think they are testing for different reasons, but guess they are probably testing for different things but for the same reason
