i like him most of the time, but his schtick does wear very thin on Gadget Man/Travel Man, and in his book. in anything else he’s usually good.

Incorrect - Ayoade and his schtick is perfect in Travel Man too. Otherwise you are right of course, but he is a great director too - The Double and Submarine both marvellous.

Nah man, it just comes across as entirely unfunny (and even a bit ignorant) when he’s pulling it with locals that aren’t in on the joke.
