Hi everyone,
I’m a bit late to the party here, which is slightly embarrassing given my age and lifelong obsession with music. Really looking forward to diving into the archives and discussions.
Quick question to start: is there a definitive list anywhere of Neptune Prize winners? I know there are a few years when it didn’t happen for various reasons, but I’m struggling to track down an accurate record. The yearly threads often show vote tallies that don’t seem to match the actual winners. For example, the 2024 winner was MINING - Chimet, but the community post seems to suggest otherwise:
Thanks in advance for any help, and apologies for my absolute ignorance!
Poll outcomes can vary over time on the forum - if accounts are inactivated or deleted then their votes are no longer tracked.
I noted at the time that MINING was unusual in that 90% of the 51 voters were from brand new accounts - looks like the only 6 votes that are still there now are from the pre-existing users who voted for it, so it seems that every single one of those brand new accounts have since disappeared.
It’s odd that the new accounts and their votes have all dropped off - I can’t imagine that even if the accounts were opened just for the purpose of voting that every one of those voters would actively close the account down within a year. Most likely there is some kind of automatic purge of accounts if they don’t meet some minimum criteria (whether it’s validating the email address used to sign up, or meeting some engagement requirement in terms of posts or number or log-ins). @moderators might be able to answer that.
