I just put it face down on the pages I’m reading.

When I was at uni and didnt have room for a bookcase or a side-table by my bed, I piled the books up by my bed and used it as a table. Mentioned this to some people on my course and one girl I didn’t even know FLIPPED THE FUCK OUT about it and yelled at me for disrespecting books. (Fuck knows how she’d have reacted if she knew that I bent page corners and used highlighters to highlight useful quotes for essays.)

happy to disrespect books if it meant getting a First tho tbf tbh

Most disrespectful thing you could do to a book

  • Fold a page corner
  • Write in the margin
  • Fuck it
  • Shit on it
  • Leave it untouched, in pristine condition on a shelf but it’s unread…

That’s not what I said you doofus.

  • Sure, I’ll read a book in the bath
  • Oooh I have to respect the sanctity of paper for some reason

I also find if you’ve folded enough corners it gets tricky to find the latest (if you’re knackered). Something sticking out is obvious AF.

only thing worse is people who use highlighter on textbooks

Was it a reply to you niki?

I buy books literally every week and have done for years. Anything i spot by a good author in charity shops i buy. If i find an interesting subject i’ll buy a few good books on it second hand off Ebay, anything - the Suez Canal, the history of cricket, got into the Congo once, or particular authors - Iain Banks, Hunter S Thompson, Graham Greene. I’ve easily got a thousand books. I’ve read about four of them.

If only you cared less about respecting books and more about respecting the feelings of others

I now only keep books I expect I’ll want to read again. No room / point keeping a mildly diverting book on the shelf forever more, and move it from flat to flat like an idiot.

only really feel bad about treating my dads books like shit because he keeps them in pristine condition for years somehow and as soon as i get my hands on them they’re all bent out of shape
