It was only 10 years ago, Come Fly With Me was only about 5 years ago. What a world.

Around the same time as they both win “lifetime achievement to comedy” awards.

It’s similar broad humour but worlds apart in terms of characters. This is all based on seeing about 2 minutes of it.

The Blur Rock Profile is ace

I’ve been saying this a lot in different contexts recently, but Rock Profile largely punched up, Little Britain (even from the name) punched down - hard.

Thing is, a few of of Little Britain’s characters were based around fairly well observed things (that “computer says no” thing), but all of it was reduced to the lowest common denominator without a shred of nuance.

Here’s something positive about it. I must have been about 10 or 11 when I watched it, maybe older. When Rob Brydon had a stiffy during one of the Bubbles Devere sketches, it was the first time I saw another erection (apart from my own) and I remember finding it formative in my associating having an erection and being sexually aroused. I don’t think I would be the man I am today if it wasn’t for that.

imagine associating a hard on with little britain :frowning:

I thought it was ‘quite funny’ when it first came out, although I never remember actively looking for it on TV, or setting it to record. Obviously it’s really quite problematic in places (the Lou and Andy sketches are CRINGE as are the tranny ‘ladies’) plus the ‘bitty’ sketches are v unhelpful for those of us who are attempting to normalise the breastfeeding of older children.

yeah, shit for cunts innit.

Who is trying to normalise the breastfeeding of older children?

I am for a start, as are lots of other mothers who don’t appreciate it when teenagers shout BITTY at you when you feed your toddler.

Toddler, phew. I thought you meant a few years older than that.

Ha! I should really have said ‘older babies’. If he’s still wanting to do it at the school gates I’ll have a wee word with him.

I think you can hate Walliams without necessarily accusing him of sexual harrassment, at least not until those allegations inevitably surface.

I loved it when it was first on. But I watched an episode again recently and couldn’t figure out why I’d liked it.

I think it’s an almost classic example of comedy that hasn’t aged at all well.

I definitely found it quite funny at the time, and quite irreverant, whereas now I find it cringey and irresponsible, so it goes to show how tastes change.

I thought some of it was really funny at the time (as an 11 year old) - although not funny in an intelligent way at all, it was just really silly - but it got repetitive and stale very quickly, even before the end of the 1st Series (before it got tremendously popular and became much more boring).

But yeah, it doesn’t hold up well now. Quite amazing given how unanimously loved it was as little as a decade ago.
