I think the businesses in the centre is a side effect of human nature. We have always built cities and the trade / works aspect exists because you have a city not the other way around.

WFH is not a good thing all your working life any more than being always in an office is. There’s a lot that comes from social interaction.

Can’t believe you didn’t destroy the site when you did this, tbh.

Had to get a bus because the central line was shut because of a knifeman on friday.

Only time i’ve been recently so can only assume it happens everyday

I assume it’s because what we call the centre is all there was for a large amount of London’s history?

Oh sure. I’m not really being clear maybe, I’m not saying the businesses are purely incidental just that there’s a lot more going on than just ‘work’ in London’s central area even if it feels like that’s what it’s about. @ttf’s “no humans ever interact in person again” vision is way off in my view

dunno, to me london seems to me more susceptible than other cities as prices rose so much higher, seems like it would need the same conditions that caused that to happen to sustain prices at that level, other things are important but employment is most linked to money which is what it comes down to

I never specified a time scale, it is inevitable though in my opinion

because technology tends to improve, get smaller, and become cheaper, employers always need to keep costs down, at some point renting out extremely expensive buildings in london will seem the less desirable option than kitting people out with the latest stuff

Say what you like about London, but there’s no denying that it’s got great transport links to not London.
